Hello... With all the question of the age-old question "to hijeb or not to hijeb" I thought I would stir the pot up a bit and post this..Wow what has the world come to?

Organiser, Melbourne grandmother Christine Hawkins, has

asked women nationally to dress in bikinis and colourful beachwear

and rally outside large mosques to show their disgust at comments

by leading Muslim cleric, Sheik Taj el-Din al Hilaly, who likened

women to "uncovered meat".

Hijebi women are planning to be there too:

Many Muslim women suggested joining the march in their hijabs

and burqas to voice their outrage at comments made by Senator

Bronwyn Bishop and Prime Minister John Howard about the way they

dress. "We're really asking people not to bother coming to the

mosque," Mr Zreika said.

"All this is doing is degrading women and giving men a great

excuse to have a perv. There are better ways women can express

their concerns."The so-called bikini march, criticised as being insensitive, was designed as a reaction to mufti Sheik Taj el-Din el-Hilaly's comments on scantily clad women being the cause of some rapes

"Am I the only one who thinks that this is a recipe for torubles? Sure, the male in me rejoices at the idea of a bikini march and a possible cat fight of epic proportions...yea… This is gonna get so very ugly!"

But on the brightside: ONE GIANT CATFIGHT! Someone better broadcast this.

I just can't believe that the clash of civilizations has come down to a Hijeb vs. a Bikini.

What a fun world!

Imo a bikini and a burqa both serve the same purpose -- to negate women in one way or another. More naked doesn't equal "more free"; it just means being diminished in a different way. In one sense, you're a completely invisible entity in society, in the other you're completely visible, but in that way you're only a body, no mind or intellect, not important at all beyond your outward self.

But those "naked meat" comments by that Sheik really were disgusting and I think protesting against them is a good idea, if only it were done in a smarter, less disrespectful way (both to the Muslim community AND to women in general).
