GC Card in Production Today (For Second Time) Need to Travel in 8 Days

My husband had his AOS interview on September 3rd.

About an hour after the interview, we got an email saying Card in Production.

On the 4th, we got another email saying he had been registered as a permanent resident and the status went back to 'Decision'.

Today the 6th we got an email saying that the Card was back in Production.

At the time of his interview, he did NOT receive a I-551 Stamp.

Is there anyway to get one of those now? We are planning on leaving the 14th for Canada. I have looked at timelines and it looks like we might receive the card before that, but I don't want to chance it.

Can we make an infopass appointment and get a I-551 Stamp?

AP was not approved until after his GC interview. So we don't even have that at this time.

Please help! Any advice would be great.

You should get the card within 2 weeks of the first email, so cutting it a bit fine. You can always make infopass for a stamp, Bring proof of travel plans.

unfortunately infopasses are usually two weeks or more in the future.

I would recommend making an infopass for whatever date you can get.. go to the uscis when you need to go, and throw yourself to the mercy of the lady at the window who is going to tell you your infopass is for another day.

some members have had success in speaking with an IO in this way.

either way you need to get in front of an IO with a stamp

It is dangerous and possibly illegal to mail GCs abroad.

Where does it say it's illegal? I found an old post (Green card email from Boarder and custom protection) --sorry I don't know how to put a direct link, here--where the OP quoted an email from CBP indicating that it was NOT illegal (but recommending courier over USPS).

We are only going to be gone from Saturday to Wednesday. Not worth it.

It's not a NEED to go. My husband is just home sick and wants to go to visit really bad. I don't blame him. I miss Canada too. And we'd be driving so there isn't really any proof of travel as we are only a 6 hour drive from his mom's house.

Hey Amber. I was just approved for my GC a few weeks ago and also had my status change about 5 times before I finally got an email stating that my card had been delivered.

From the day I was approved to the day I recieved the card was exactly 8 days. It will be tight but I think you'll have it in time. Good luck!

Was your 8 days including weekends? I got an email today saying it was sent out today! So hoping that it will be here by Friday. Worst case Saturday. Do they give you tracking numbers? I saw one post where they did get a USPS tracking number but wasn't sure if that was for the green card.

As soon as I got the email when I logged on to check status on uscis it was on the page for the i485 status.

Card/ Document Production

On September 9, 2013, we mailed the new card directly to the address we have on file. You should receive your new card within 30 days. If you do not, or if you move before you get it, call customer service at 1-800-375-5283.

This step applies to applications that result in an applicant receiving a card (such as a "green card") or other document (such as a naturalization certificate, employment authorization document, travel document, or advance parole). Applications will be in this step from the time the order to produce the card/document is given until the card/document is produced and mailed to the applicant. You can expect to receive your card/document within 30 days of the approval of your application.

If you do not receive your document, please contact our National Customer Service Center at 1-800-375-5283.
