Hi, sorry if this is something that gets asked a lot

I'm applying for a K1 visa through London and I joined because I'm really confused about the vague instructions in the letter I received.

I got a letter notifying me of my partner's approved petition. It listed some forms which I've been on the website to print out but it's not clear on what my next action should be. It says "please do not send forms untill specifically requested" but doesn't otherwise imply that I'm waiting to hear from them again, or what form it will take. The "detailed explanation of the process" on the website doesn't say anything about them contacting me a second time.

I have seen references on Visajourney to being sent a packet of forms. But if I'm waiting for something like that, they are taking their time as well as leaving it mysterious! This last letter came a couple of weeks ago while I was on holiday and so time is marching on. I'm hesitant to rely on waiting for something to appear that I have not "officially" been told about so what should I do?

I think the best step that you can do is to contact them.

I believe the letter says do not send any DOCUMENTS unless requested, not until requested.

Forms= DS-xxx and are sent as the web page explains.

Documents= birth certificate, police certificate, financial proofs, etc and are taken to the interview.

Follow the instructions-- send forms, gather documents, have a medical. Then they will send you an interview letter.

If your petition has been approved and this seems to take 4 to 6 months, it will go to NVC and then on to London. London will send you the so called packet 3 which is actually one piece of paper, there is no packet of forms as such just links to them. It sounds like you are at this stage but you have no timeline to go on. if you are at this stage they will have told you to send the forms in when you are ready. If you are ready then send them and have your medical, when they receive the forms and your medical results they will assign you and interview date. Have you checked your status on the CEAC website? Do you have your case number yet, it will be of the form LNDxxxxxxxxxx.

Bolded part clears up the confusion precisely, thankyou!!

It is very confusing that it is referred to as a packet. And the wording in the letter is ambiguous, it doesn't say anything about going ahead and sending the forms, the only thing about my action is to NOT "send documents untill requested".

The case number is on the letter, yeah.

My next problem is whether to send the updated form vs as of sept 1st, or go with the ones I was instructed to use on my letter.

Go with both, you think?

Try the DS-260 and tell is what happens. We can't...already past that. Nobody has reported doing that yet. Make notes or screenshots to help the rest with your experience.

An update on the DS-260 question!

Thank you for your email.

If you received your instruction letter before September 1st, you should complete the DS-230 (1&2) form. You should submit all the required forms as soon as possible.

Sincerely,

Consular Information Unit
U.S. Embassy, London
CONS/CIU/GS

Might print that out and send it with the forms, just in case ha ha
