My passport is my maiden name, and everything else is my married name, similar to you. The law states you CAN travel with your maiden name, as long as you have sufficient proof (i.e. marriage certificate) and tell them you plan to get your name changed on the passport asap :) I know that's the case for everything else. Not sure if it's different for green card stuff though. I'm sure someone else will speak up :)

Yes, that's exactly how you do it. Just have proof of the name change (ie, marriage certificate). If you have enough time, in the UK, you might want to look into getting the name in the passport changed to avoid having to cart marriage certificate around. In that case though, the tickets on the way back to the US would need to be in the new name (or maybe you can show both old and new passport and they'll let you go with tickets in the old name).

I asked the guy checking passports at Heathrow that question and he said they see that situation all day long. He said the marriage certificate makes it okay if there are any questions about names.

I recently went home to visit my family and travelled with my green card. I made sure to book my ticket using my maiden name (same name as is on my passport) and brought my green card and marriage license. On my way back to the US the lady checking me in told me I couldn't travel because my green card and my passport names didn't match. I stared at her in shock for a minute until she said "well unless you have your marriage certificate" - I of course did and everything was fine.

Just make sure you bring all 3 things and you will be fine!
