How often do you hear updates?

Now that my petition is filed I know I will hear something when it is accepted (NOA1). And then several months later there will be NOA2 if there are no problems. But will I hear anything between now and then? Is there any way I will know if they are working on it or is it just wait and see between NOA1 and NOA2? Thanks for answering!

It's a wait and see, and check your status on the USCIS website, there is a possibility of an RFE (Request for Evidence) between NOA1 and NOA2.

Don't expect to hear anything between submission and adjudication. While case status can be checked on the USCIS website, it won't say where your file is in the queue, if it's being worked on at that time, etc. In a nutshell, once you submit the package, you won't hear anything until a decision is made or if an RFE is issued.
