Individually they have very little influence, I am not sure it was ever claimed otherwise, but the NRA collectively has a lot of influence via lobbying. The NRA doesn't need members for influence, it needs them to keep arms sales healthy. Of course I expect that in the scheme of things, personal arms sales are peanuts really, but they may as well scoop up the peanuts. I am beginning to wonder what the point of the NRA is now, maybe there is more money in personal arms sales than I suspect? It just seems as though it would be small change compared to selling arms in military contracts.

At least one user here keeps talking about all the gun owners being brainwashed by the NRA. If only 5% of gun owners are members, not many listed to them. And all of the gun talk here is about personal use, not military.

When you are as paranoid as most of these gun nutters appears to be, and are so afraid of gun registration because the government will take them away, would you really want the post office to see that you are getting the NRA magazine every month, or even have your name on the NRA membership roll? Perhaps that is why American Rifleman only publishes around 1.7 million copies per issue.
