Ok I went to my local S.S. office today and after waiting an hour and half gets to see someone,they ask me why I want a number I say it is because I need to open U.S. bank account as my british card only is accepted at certain places,ok she says I just need to go ask about this,comes back 5 minutes later and tells me that they cannot issue me one due to the fact I dont have the right authorization on my K3 visa and if I want to open an account I have to apply to I.R.S. and ask them for a ITIN?,the alternitive is wait till I get my EAD and then apply again,has this happened to anyone else?

11/18/05 - NOA1 I -130

12/08/05 - File 1-129F

12/13/05 - NOA1 I-129F

01/09/06 - APPROVAL I-129F

03/23/06 - K3 denied due to CMIT 23 years prior

03/23/06 - i-601 Waiver Submitted

04/07/06 - NOA1 for I-601 Waiver received

10/18/06 - I-601 Approved out of Vermont

11/27/06 - 10:00 appointment at Vancouver Consulate for Visa Stamp

11/27/06 - Arrive home 8.5 hours after crossing the border in Blaine Washington, due to horrible show storm --- we were happy to be home

01/04/07 - AOS sent off

01/10/07 - NOA - 1-485

01/25/07 - RFE for I-824 - used and outdated form

02/14/07 - Get email stating Post Office has Address posted as Vacant from the USCIS

02/16/07 - Hubby gets WA State Drivers Licence

03/05/07 - AOS appointment April 19, 2007 Seattle

04/13/07 - Biometrics Taken for AOS

04/19/07 - AOS interview - Approved pending name check

04/23 - 05/28 - 5 additional appointments with the Seattle USCIS office - to clear up the EAD issue

05/15/07 - 90 Day EAD Arrives

06/10/07 - EAD/Green Card approval letter arrives

06/15/07 - EAD arrives

06/23/07 - 2 year conditional Green Card Arrives

Yes.....you need EAD to get a SSN.....

altho my bank did let me open an account without a SSN....guess they put in a dummy one till my I got my real one.

married Dec '03 in US

Feb 04...... I 130 filed......................approved August 04

March 04... I 129F filed....................approved October 04

August 04...I 130 for children filed....approved September 04

Interview: Jan 19 2005 in Sydney

11/16/06 Transferred to CSC

11/17/06 Biometrics appt

11/27/06 Touched "Case now pending at CSC"

1/12/07 EAD "touched"

1/16/07 EAD "touched"

1/17/07 EAD approved "Card production Ordered"

1/20/07 I 485 "touched"

1/22/07 EAD card received

6/13/07 Transferred back to Missouri....grrrrrrr

7/23/07 Interview date! FINALLY!

7/23/07 AOS APPROVED!!! :o) 10 yr Greencard I 551 stamp in passport.

7/28/07 Welcome letter received

7/28/07 Card production ordered.

8/1/07 Approval notice senT

8/3/07 Greencards received in mail!

As above have stated there is no auto SSN with K3. There are some banks/credit Unions out there that will allow you to join your partners account without a SSN but you will have to shop around. You will have to file for a EAD ASAP which will take about 90 days to qualify for a SSN.

K-3 holders can not get a SS number until they have work authorization either by having an EAD card, or after getting a green card.

I had no issues getting a bank account with a TIN, you could possibly be added onto your spouses account with neither TIN or SSN. Just some options for you while you wait.

I was advised at the SS office last week that

K1 is eligable for SS number - I should get mine in around 2 weeks

K2 must wait until EAD or AOS - I must file for my son's after AOS

K3 - I am unsure sorry!!

I-129F Sent : 19th October 2005

Interview Date 10th October 2006 10am

Interview Approved 7th November 2006

Visa delivered 9th November 2006

Finally where I belong S.C with my man 19th November 2006 WOOO HOOO!!!

Got Married 14th January 2007

AOS

Sent AOS docs 31st January 2007

USPS confirm delivered to USCIS 06th February 2007

I-797C Notice of Action dtd 9th Feb recvd 12th February 2007 (both my son and myself)

Biometrics Appointment 1st March 2007

Transfered to CSC 11th April 2007

GREEN CARDS RECEIVED 9th July 2007 All done till 2009!!!!!
