Hi all,

I have some questions about the G-325A and I-129F forms before we file for the K-1 Visa. Some may be stupid, some may be sensible, but I'm nervous so please be kind, as you folks so often are! I understand if you get something wrong in the application or leave something out this can delay the process. We have been apart for 2 years now so do not want this at all!

I am a British citizen, my fiance is a naturalized US citizen. I have visited her in New York City 8 times over the past two years on the Visa Waiver Programme. We are applying for the K-1 Visa in a few weeks.

About my G-325A (this version: http://www.uscis.gov/files/form/g-325a.pdf):

  1. The section that reads 'File Number A'. I don't have this number, as I have not applied and am not a US citizen (obviously). I presume that this is the Alien Registration Number, which is also mentioned at the bottom of the form. Should I leave this blank?
  2. The section about 'U.S. Social Security No. (if any)'. I was a student in the US for 5 months and was given a job by my university while there. For this I was given a Social Security number, but this was in early 2007. Should I include this?
  3. The section 'This form is submitted in connection with an application for:' Should I tick 'Other' and specify K-1 Visa?

About the I-129F (this version: http://www.uscis.gov/files/form/i-129f.pdf):

  1. Part 2 question 11, again I do not have an Alien Registration Number. What should I put here?
  2. Part 2 question 12, again should I put my old Social Security number?
  3. Part 2 question 15, I will not be in the US when out application is filed, so do I fill any of this section out? I notice there is no where else on the form to put my passport number.

Any help is graciously received!

just leave it blank

2. The section about 'U.S. Social Security No. (if any)'. I was a student in the US for 5 months and was given a job by my university while there. For this I was given a Social Security number, but this was in early 2007. Should I include this?

it should be included and once your visa application is approved, you will just need to update it together with your status.

3. The section 'This form is submitted in connection with an application for:' Should I tick 'Other' and specify K-1 Visa?

tick 'other' and specify I-129F

About the I-129F (this version: http://www.uscis.gov...form/i-129f.pdf):

1. Part 2 question 11, again I do not have an Alien Registration Number. What should I put here?

again, just leave it blank

2. Part 2 question 12, again should I put my old Social Security number?

yes

3. Part 2 question 15, I will not be in the US when out application is filed, so do I fill any of this section out? I notice there is no where else on the form to put my passport number.

you just have to answer those items if the beneficiary is currently in the US during the application. if not, you may put N/A on the first item (15.a.) then leave the other items pertaining to that same question (15.b. to 15.h.) blank. your passport number is not anyway needed at this stage except if you are currently in the US.

I hope that helps! Good luck on your application dancin5hr.gif

G-325A

1. Yes

2. Yes- your number for life.

3. Yes

I-129F

1. Blank

2. Yes

3. Write N/A or leave blank if it won't take a character "/"

One question however. If you had a student visa, did it not have an Alien number associated with it? Most K1s don't have one when they start out, but you did have a visa so you would have been given an A# maybe. I am not that familiar with student visas. Something to research.

Thanks! I looked at all the documentation from my J-1 student visa and can find no alien registration number. As you say, it seems you only get one after applying for permanent residency.

Nope, the A# is assigned at the I-129F petition stage. It first appears on the NOA2 approval notice. Also printed on the visa, was handwritten on the (pre-automation) I-94 entry by the CBP officer, and written by the passport stamp for the K visa entry to the US.
