hi vjers!

we will arrive 5AM in china on our way to visit Philippines so we are planning on going out of the airport to see a the beauty of beijing because our flight will depart in 8PM yet that gives us 14 hour layover. My question is, do we need a transit visa? My husband and kids are US passport holder and I am still a filipino passport holder with greencard. also, what can you recommend for us to see for few hours in beijing? TIA

By definition a transit visa is for those travelers that are entering the country with the sole purpose for changing planes (most common event). IF you plan to do any site-seeing then you are a tourist and will require a tourist visa. So for your plans you and your husband will need the proper tourist visa for someone from the US and PI. To remain in the airport may require a transit visa. You need to check the requirements for a USC and PI citizen traveling thru China to see if a transit visa is required.

Good luck,

Dave

There is a 72-hour visa-free transit policy for nationals of certain countries that allows you to visit Beijing. Nationals of the U.S. are included, but not Philippines.
