So, this is my first Christmas with my husband, and we're putting up our first tree. I was searching for ornaments but so far I've either found ugly ones or too expensive ones. Anyone have good recomendation of places to get cute and cheap ornaments?

I might go to Walmart then, I tried Kmart but they only had Martha Stewart ones and although they were gorgeous they were a bit out of my league for this year (with AOS and all we're broke). Also, I'm sad to say we don't have Target in Puerto Rico. Thanks for the tips!!!

About making them, well, I could, but I wouldn't have enough time for this year.

Walmart was having a 30% off sale on their individual ornaments here this week. I have always had the tradition of giving each of my children an ornament for Christmas. My tree is now so full of ornaments it tends to get heavy on one side lol. When they move out on their own each will get the ornaments he has been given each year. We all love pulling them out every Christmas and recalling who gave what and when.

Fill in with inexpensive baubles this year and stock up on the clearance sales right after the holidays. I also agree some of the dollar stores can stock cute ornaments.

I do plan on getting ornaments after Christmas to save up on ornaments next year (if we can afford it). As for putting inexpensive stuff up, I'll use candy canes to boost up number of ornaments. Can't get any cheaper than candy canes! I do keep thinking of my infinite boxes of ornament left back in Brazil. :( All colors, shapes, so wonderful! :sigh:

don't forget stringing popcorn, or maybe a roll of wide ribbon, that helps to add some filler :) and if you have any clear beads you can string them together to make icicles. :)

Marilyn, I'm so jealous you have your tree up and presents under already!!! We're doing ours tomorrow...well, ok...TODAY! Stayed up late watching "Christmas Shoes" and now my eyes are so red and puffy..it's awful!!! WHAT a tearjerker!! Anyway, going to town tomorrow, so I'm going to check out the Dollar Tree..we have one too, and some of your ornaments are so cute!! I *love* the Hallmark ones, but can't afford those! I always think Shopko has really nice ones...but I've found some really cute ones at Walmart before too. Nice tree! M.

Ignore my little crooked snowman ($1 at the dollar tree) the tree fell over  . We stuck with our el cheapo artificial tree this year, going to look for a big one on clearance after the season. It is like a Charlie Brown tree, skinny and most definetly lifeless. I found the gingerbread ribbon at Garden Ridge on sale for 3.97 a roll, makes a nice garland I think. I also added some stalks of wooden berries I grabbed for .97 cents.

Nice trees! I also have an artificial cheapo this year, and plan on buying a nicer one next year (Luis wanted real ones but here's too hot to have them, I think). I ended up finding basic ornaments at Walmart, and I'll have to start collecting ornaments little by little for my next Christmas so this year it will be simple balls and candy canes. :P

I personally love the look of a tree with color coordinated, standard ball ornaments.

This was our tree a year or two ago-- We aren't doing it this year because we've got too many other important things to be worrying about, and the living room is already full with my half put together elliptical.

Most ornaments we got at the home depot or lowes, I forget which. I believe the ribbon was from walmart. There were a few special ones thrown on there, there's a bob the builder ornament, which is an inside little joke between my fiance and I, two homer simpson ones that I got for him, a blues clues one, a cookie monster one. I realize they look kind of silly, but that's okay by me because they have meaning. :P

The rest are all just from large sets of color coordinated balls, a few matte, a few shiny, lots of different things printed on them (snowflakes, trees, poinsettias, diamonds, and some are plain with no printing). There's also a bird (my mom thought it looked nice, I thought it looked.. strange. There was a birds nest under it.), and a few cinnamon sticks with berries, and glittery pinecones (which looked even stranger than the birds and I convinced my mom to let me use them in a potpourri basket instead). The ribbon was a pain in the butt to do by myself with such a large tree, but we fixed it so it wasn't so painfully crooked later, and we think it made it tie everything together pretty nicely.
