1. dual core laptops running xp pro are very cheap on ebay and craigslist. get one, install opera browser on it, and walk away.

2. google tracks all usage back to the home planet.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

The current chrome books have been out over a year and are at the end of their cycle.

The new chrome books should be out in the next few months. If they don't get refreshed by Christmas, then it's another failed laptop replacement.

I have a Chromebook and I love it! It is not a replacement for a fully-fledged laptop by any stretch of the imagination, but it does what it says on the tin. It weighs almost nothing and is compact enough to throw it in my tote bag so I can take it everywhere. The keyboard is big enough that typing is easy. It does start up within seconds, and it's (for the moment) virus free. I can use it for remotely accessing my work computer over the weekend. I think of it as akin more to a tablet in terms of use.

It is NOT good for heavy duty word processing. I tried working on a brief over the weekend in Google Docs and it was frustrating. However it's a fun little second machine to have as an adjunct to your main home computer. My boyfriend bought me one for Valentine's Day, and then saw how much I like it so he bought himself one. However, he does have Computer Acquisition Syndrome, which results in him having ridiculous numbers of machines at home because he's interested in seeing how they run.

Anyway, in short, Chromebooks are useful as browsing devices and email but nothing requiring much power. I watch Netflix on it sometimes, but I'd never use it for much more than messing about on the internet. I agree that if you want one, wait for the new model to come out. smile.png
