I just would like to understand some things about the Green Card.. A friend of a friend is now married to an American Citizen and adjusted her status from a Tourist Visa...She entered the U.S with the intent to get married.... Guess what?? She got her Green Card within 3 months!!!!!! Why do people adjusting from K-1 have to wait almost 1 year to get it?

If this friend actually entered with the intention to stay, then she lied and committed green card fraud and could be deported if they ever found out.

That's why people file a K-1 and actually do things the legal way.


Also, K-1's adjusting status get their green card in the same amount of time as said friend.

It's that they aren't allowed to file that same paperwork until they get the visa to enter the US and then get married.

You're thinking of the entire process and not just the AoS process.

Agreed. While it is nerve wracking to see others get approvals quick, we are doing it the right way.

I Can tell you that it does take longer to adjust from k1. It took my husband over 10 months to get approved AFTER filing AOS - that was without any RFEs. There are many who have been waiting almost a year for approval who are adjusting from k1 .
