Technically they can apply for an EAD before marriage and filing for AOS, however that is a huge waste of $380. The EAD would only be valid for as long as their I-94 is, which is about the same amount of time as it takes to receive it. Which means there would not really be time to use it anyway. After you marry, file for AOS as soon as you get back your certified marriage certificate from the court. You will then file for EAD and AP, and the fees for those forms will be waived when filing with the I-485. It takes 2-3 months to receive the EAD/AP and at that time, along with their SSN, they can start to work while waiting for their green card approval. http://www.visajourney.com/content/k1k3aos
