As a matter of fact I am as outspoken about other laws and enforcing them. As others will tell you I am VERY conservitive and that runs to the enforcement of our laws. I know that just because I "work" with hispanics does not make me or not make me a racist. BUT I VERY MUCH OBJECT to being called a racist when you have NO IDEA WHO I AM!!!!. Wanting our laws enforced does not make me a racist!!! I don't give a damn who you are or where you come from. If you want to be here then do it legally!

Do you think that some of our immigration laws - ie. who is eligible for visas - are racist in themselves? If so, would supporting our current immigration laws be racist then?

No, I would support them being changed to a non-racist version. Thats my point. Change a bad law but you can't ignore it because you don't agree with it. Work within the law not outside it.

This seems to becoming a circular argument. Those who claim illegal aliens are criminal do so by the logic that because they have not followed our immigration laws , their act is criminal which is totally false.

Gary, I'm trying to find information for you, but as far as I know, if you are found to be here illegally, you are not put in prison. They may hold you in a jail cell to later deport you, but think about it, if they were criminal, why would you be let out of jail?

Again a felony is felony and the term 'criminal' has always applied to those convicted of a felony.

Being here illegal is not a felony and therefore illegal aliens are not criminals.

Why argue over what seems as petty semantics? Because by calling them criminal, it implies that they are deviant and a danger to society, which is baseless and dishonest.

now that (bolded) is hilarious

steven, i know that illegals hold a special place in your heart for some reason. the fact remains that they have broken the law, and many have done so quite willingly. i state willingly to separate them from those who have gone out of status unknowingly in the states in order to preclude nit picking which i know will follow this post. it takes no rocket scientist to figure out that crossing the border of a country while avoiding the enforcement officials the country has in place to prevent such is the action of someone intent on breaking the law. they know what they are doing, and here you and a host of others are defending such a practice! to try to place someone doing so in the same category as someone going just over the posted speed limit is ludicrous, and to split hairs about a criminal being only someone who commits a felony is likewise asinine. let's quit making excuses for anyone who knowingly breaks the law just by entering this country.

So only felons are criminals?

I know this wasn't directed at me, but I've long been embarassed by our policies to disallow vistor/tourist visas from countries we pick and choose. These are often poor countries, yet your only way to get a visa is to prove you have **ties** read that **CASH** in the country so you will return.

How can one claim God cares to judge a fornicator over judging a lying, conniving bully? I guess you would if you are the lying, conniving bully.

Visiting or immigrating to any country is a privilege. The policies are usually based on the track records of previous visitors of that country. They have no one to blame but to themselves.

I agree with that and I would like to see it changed. Because Luz is from one of those "poor" countries there is no way to get her a visitors visa. They also look at her K-1 much closer than someone who is from a "first world" country. I think it is wrong. But until the morons in Washington change things we have to abide by the law. I would love to see a guest worker program so people that want to work can come here and do it. But we cannot just ignore our borders. If a law is bad then change it but don't ignore it.

I think this issue is too often overlooked when discussing illegal immigration. It seems that many people see it as a black and white issue. Are you here illegally? Yes, then you're a criminal.

If the law is not applied fairly, then to me, someone's status as a "criminal" is very misleading.

Just out of curiosity I called Javier and asked him why he made that choice to "willingly" break the law and come into the US those years ago...and this is what he said (in his words):

"You no stay thinking that you stay broken the law, you only thinking like you coming to work."

But if every law was changed by working from the outside in, we wouldn't have civil rights laws, women wouldn't be voting, etc. All of these significant changes were made after people made huge sacrifices, physically (including death), mentally, emotionally to show the injustice of the laws they didn't agree with.
