How to request a tax transcript?

Hi! Our question is how to request a tax transcript? We are filling out form 4506-T coz we moved to a new address..but there's a check box in the form which we dont know..so the form that we'll be requesting is 1040 right? And below that there are choices:

A. Return transcript

B. Account transcript

C. Record of account

Which one do we need to check? Thanks!

Why I cannot do it online? It keeps saying an error that the address is not in the system. Why? I have lived under that address for 3 years...and no, I don't think I wrote anything wrong....street number, and street name, and then zip code....anyone had similar experience?

Are you entering your name and address exactly as they appear on your tax returns?

Ok, it worked! And you know it is ridiculous why it did not work...so I wrote (not my address, made up for the sake of example) first when it failed as :

1234 Fifth Street (to the address section)

667879 (as the zip code)

And it kept failing. I even tried: 1234 fifth street, as well as 1234 5th street, and 1234 fifth, and 1234 5th and so on. None of them worked, and it kept shoving it back as "the address is not in our system"....so then finally I did "1234 5th st" and that one worked?????? But that is weird as I hever never ever abbreviated in my life ever street as "st", only either spelling out street as street, or going as "str". So, it was really weird how it immediately accepted "1234 5th st". Now, I know....just weird because even our tax form we did not write "st" for street....oh well, at least it finally worked....but thanks for helping...apparently you should actually not write the address exactly as they appear on your tax returns....LOL

To answer the OP, as nobody seemed to understand that she cannot order them online due to her change of address, it is the Return Transcript. The Account Transcript is just a record of your payment or refund - they are not interested in that. And the Record of Account is just a combination of the Return Transcript and Account Transcript.

Thanks everybody! Return transcript will take 30days? I dont know if we can still wait for that..coz we need to file within 1st week of august..is there any other way to expedite or at least before aug?

If you send that by mail, it will take approximately 2 weeks, I've found. If you do it online, most get it in a week.

Do on line, use the exact address that is on your return, you will get it in about 1 week.

I did it online and it said it takes 7 to 10 days...good luck!

Yep, online is the way to go. At least, for it was the best way for my husband and I. It took about 5-6 days for us to get the tax return transcripts.
