Question on your time. Your entire process from i-130 to interview took about 10 months, which I think is normal but your NOA2 was really fast. Can you let us know how you did it?

Thanks

BTW, congratulations!

There is nothing he did or didn't do to "speed up" the process. Process times at USCIS are always changing. They are just at a slow time now. Back in 2012 there were times that applications were being approved in 2 weeks time. It shows he was processed at the Vermont Service center. Now that service center is one of the slowest. It all is about timing. When you applied and how backed up they are.

There are only a few things that can speed up the process. They are:

1. Direct Consular Filing (DCF) - Some countries (UK) Have a USCIS office there and can apply in person directly.

2. Do not get any RFEs. Make sure all your peperwork is correct

3. Ask for and expedited case. If you have a hardship or medical issue for example

4. File with both the petitioner AND beneficiary living together outside the US.

For #4. Process times used to be, and still are a little, faster for couple who live together outside the US. This is because their applications do not get sent to a local office in the US. They stay at the NBC for processing. Where as most cases where the petitioner lives in the US, the application gets sent to their local office. This takes more times in many cases because it gets sent to the main service center, then to NBC, then to local office. More steps in the process. That is why it seems faster for couples living together abroad.

Gotcha, more steps = more wait time. Correct me if I'm wrong, but as off October or November of 2012, don't all IR1-CR1 petitions go to the the local office from the Chicago Lockbox? From what I understand, Vermont Service Center doesn't process these petitions anymore.

Service Center (Chicago in your case) > NBC > Local office

Those are the steps. Sometimes they DO NOT get send to the local office. It depends on the back log, and location of the petitioner as well. The Vermont Service Center is so back logged and working on other things that they have been transfering all the i-130 cases out to other centers, such as Texas for example.
