I read this part right here and the very last night went.. UHM - We just got rid of DOMA and they want it back in another way....

Looks to be some good things and some things I think will be not so good... Interesting to read even if I can have no input that affects it in any way, shape, or form as an LPR.

Family-based immigration

What are the main changes to the family-based immigration system?

Petitions for spouses and children of Lawful Permanent Residents under the current family-based system will be considered immediate relatives, making them exempt from current visa caps and immediately eligible for green cards. There will no longer be an immigrant category for siblings of U.S. citizens, and visas will no longer be available to married sons or daughters of U.S. citizens who are over 30 years of age. These relatives would have to apply under the new point system or find another avenue in order to immigrate. The annual worldwide level of family-based immigrant visas will remain at 480,000 per year, minus the visas assigned to immediate relatives the previous year, but not less than 161,000 per year starting 18 months after enactment.

How does S. 744 address existing problems in the family-based immigration system?

S. 744 makes significant improvements to the family-sponsored immigration system, but does not address all criticisms. Notable improvements include eliminating the current backlogs in the system by 2021, recapturing unused visas from previous years, allowing parents of U.S. citizens to bring their minor children at the time they immigrate, and allowing for immediate reunification for spouses and minor children of Lawful Permanent Residents. On the other hand, the bill eliminates the categories for siblings and adult married children of U.S. citizens if they are over 30. In addition, the bill does not allow U.S. citizens or LPRs to petition for green cards for their same-sex spouses.

Never encountered such a nasty governmental agency as the NVC, can't even make an inquiry without getting chewed out. I could not petition for my wife's over 21 unmarried son. She had to, and we were strongly advised at the time, would go much quicker if she became a US citizen.

Senators and congressman are completely helpless in this respect; all this is under the jurisdiction of the executive branch. Not a bid of interest in Latin America, but in the Middle East where people are supposing helping our military. And this latest guy added Africa to second place; it sure is not on a first come first served basis. And it sure doesn't help to have a crooked leader in Venezuela with hatred toward the USA, the last guy kicked out the American Ambassador in Venezuela, our guy here in turn.

Even more astounding, is the Venezuelan economy is based on the US dollar, practically any judge or notary I met down there has a Miami bank account. And to get anything done, want a donation to those accounts. The Bolivar is completely worthless. And the key reason they have so many US bucks, the USA is the major importer of their oil.

We can get along perfectly fine with Venezuelans’, but our leaders sure can’t, therefore we must suffer because of these AH’s. People in Venezuela are really suffering, can’t even buy a roll of toilet paper.

This latest guy in the White House seems to be a lot more interested in other countries helping them with their infrastructure while ours is going to hell. If we do have traitors to the USA, look no further than Washington DC.. These are the only people with the power to export our jobs, what’s next?

Nick, that is some serious topic coverage in four paragraphs...

But on Venezuela.. over half their GDP is based on petroleum which is not exactly stable. They are bound to have very good and very bad years... Hence the near 10% economic growth in 2007 and yet 6% contraction a couple of years later (and the only south American country to have negative growth last year).. And irrelevant of peoples views on its moves to the extreme left - It has killed foreign investment and caused capital flight making them even more dependent on the petroleum exports.

I don't believe it.. Prove it to me and I still won't believe it. -Ford Prefect

Uhm... curious... why not state exactly what you don't agree with towards this bill instead of just ranting randomly?

Darn right its a serious topic, been trying to get my stepson out of Venezuela for the last six years. It's good we can still send US dollars down there, or otherwise he would starve to death.

Does it mean that if and when the new reform is passed, LPRs can petition spouse and children of any age/married or not? Interesting to see that there will be no category for USC's siblings and married sons and daughters.

Question now is: What should be the best thing for someone who is a sibling of a USC and at the same time son/daughter of LPR who is married or about to marry to do?

NO if a USC couldn't get a married child then an LPR couldn't ether.

But there would be no same sex petitions again either which is the main reason why I think this should not go through.

Thanks NLR. I am still wondering what would be the best position for someone who is at the moment a sibling of a USC and at the same time son/daughter of LPR who is married or about to marry to do?

You may want to post the question in the bringing family members of USC to america forum or the LPR version as well. I'll be honest, I'm not sure which one would be better.
