Importing Food into US

I'm posting this in the Canada forum as I think they probably bring food over more than regular people since we land cross more than air cross.

I want to bring in Sunflower Seeds and Cinnamon Rolls next month.

Does anyone see issues with these?

I tried to google importing the seeds as those feel like my biggest concern, but i'm only getting commercial import info.

These are the things I want to bring in, and the packages they are in.

I've never had to declare food!

If the seeds are processed they should be ok. If they are raw and in theory they could grow you would have more issues. But you can easily get these things here so you shouldn't need to worry about bringing them.

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

I've never seen these seeds and I love them and I want them and I want my family to enjoy them.

I'ma get pulled into secondary anyways so they can feel free to toss them if they aren't really allowed, but I really didn't want to spend my money if they aren't allowed... even though they come from the dollar store =X

The cinnamon rolls I REALLY don't want to spend money on because I will be spending quite a bit as I'm buying them for my sister's wedding.

But, I can't find a reason they wouldn't be allowed.

Ok so I think I'm good then, WHEW!

I will cry if they confiscate my 50 dollars worth of cinnamon rolls.

They would probably do it just so they could eat them themselves >=[

I love cinnamon rolls. They sell them here in the US but maybe not the same brand. I can also buy sunflower seeds. Since what you are bringing is sealed by the company it should be fine.

I'm not just looking for plain sunflower seeds.

I'm looking for seasoned ones.

I've seen there is spitz in the us, but I don't care for their version.

I really like this brand and I can't find it anywhere in the US.

Plus, I mean, it's only $1 per pack compared to the $2/pack of Spitz.

Thanks to everyone for your help.

I think I will go ahead and bring them.

Mean sarnia border.

If you are crossing and active a visa, they are probably NOT going to even look in your vehicle. When my fiance (now husband) and I crossed over and activated his K1 visa, we had it packed to the brim and I told them that if they were going to look through the car, to be careful for the TV when they open my hatchback it might fall out. They laughed and said they weren't going to look. We crossed at Sarnia/Port Huron. I have brought food across the border before. If they ask, be honest. But 9 times out of 10, they never asked me anything about food or anything. They just consider it something you purchased while there. I brought candy back once. Never an issue.

Never lie though. If they ask, be honest. But I doubt they will ask. My husband's mom even sent him with a huge bag of cookies for the trip. They were sitting right on the dash board. No issues. BUT again, BE HONEST lol

1- I am NOT crossing on a visa.

2- Food must be declared if the declaration sheet requests it, HOWEVER now that I think about it, I think the canadian one specifically requests meat, cheese, fruits, and veggies, in which I don't think my food falls under any of those categories so it may never come up, HOWEVER, they have asked me on several occasions in general if I have any food items on me

3- Why can I not find your POE review? I see nothing since 2005

4- And finally my husband is red flagged so they treat him like a criminal and thoroughly search everything.

I think my numbering comes off as condescending but I don't mean it that way, I'm just separating my thoughts.

I'm not sure if I am did a review for my POE. I know that I did for my interview! Sorry! :) But yes, there are signs for meat, cheese, fruits and veggies, plants etc. But nothing about sun flower seeds (for eating) or yummy delicious cinnamon rolls! :) Maybe offer the CO one as a thank you (Just kidding on that)

Nope, keeping them sealed as the wedding is a week after I bring them down.

Have to have them tasting delicious days later!

NO ROLLS FOR YOU, MISTER!

So how was the POE, then?

I don't care for sarnia and they haven't been the greatest to us so I'm curious if they know squat about visa endorsing.

POE was actually very pleasant. It took them a while, won't lie about that. But they got it done. They were joking around with us and made us feel at ease. They got my husbands name wrong so when we went to get his SSN they couldn't find him in the system, but otherwise, it was fine. Took maybe an hour or so. Which is about average from what I've read. The guy at the booth was a real meany, but everyone in secondary was great. No compliants at all. I've always crossed at Sarnia. Never had any issues. They are also great for me.

So sorry to hear you had a rough experience! :(

I'm surprised you've missed me talking about my experiences with Sarnia.

Bastards flagged him on his first visit in 2009.

Things have finally begun to get easier, but not w/o denying him tons of times first and other times requiring him an I-94.

They were about to deny him entry for our WEDDING and he was with his freaking MOTHER!
