Interview, No Decision - What to expect now

had my interview today. 1 pm. Got there on time - in by 1 sharp. IO was older. About late 50's. Made us swear an oath (you know the usual). Had an interview (job) before my immigration interview so i was "all dressed". Didn't have time to go back home & change and asked wifey to come over. She came in jeans ! ( no0pb.gifno0pb.gif kinda wanted both of us to look formal ). Anyhow, the interview started out friendly. He joked about me not applying for advance parole calling me a "runaway". He went over the I-485 questions and then slowly ... things went south. Our bank statement has "incoming wire transfers". It's money from my family back home to help me occasionally. I received my work permit this week and haven't been able to work since. I mean, what does he expect ? He didn't seem to like that very much. He had a book and red pen where he jotted a few things down and he wrote that down. Asked how we met. What we did right after the wedding. Parents names. Favorite TV Shows. Form of birth control. My wife's tattoos. And then ... he started to ask about my sister who wrote an affidavit for me. Whether she was a LPR. Her husband (my joint sponsor, also LPR). Even my best friend (also a LPR). I guess he wanted to know how long I've know them & didn't come here with their help, but come on ... she's my blood sister and I came here as a student. Another thing that stuck out was his concern for our living situation since we have roomates. Wife & i are young (twenties) with no "solid" income yet. Anyhow, we left there dazed. He said that he would need to do some FBI checks to clarify a few things. Said he would do some follow up calls, and if need be show up where we live. Then he took my I-94 & stapled it to my folder. Interview time was about 25 minutes. As far as documents, he seemed to have had everything he needed. Didn't care for photos.

He then gave me a form & checked the box that read : "A decision cannot yet be made about your application/petition. USCIS will send you a written notice regarding your application/petition. You can also check the status of your case at wwwdotuscisdotgov".

The form had 3 boxes. The 1st box read : " Your application has been recommended for approval", & the 3rd box read "please follow the instructions on the request for evidence being mailed to you". Neither was checked for us.

We were never seperated. I'm not sure if this was a stokes interview. Neither of us has ever been married or had a child. My wife has never before filed for ANY immigration benefit for anyone before. She's not even speaking right now out of shock. I mean we weren't approved, so is this a denial ..... ? So confused. Any solid advice would be greatly appreciated ....

It wasn't a Stokes (you would have been separated at some point if it was), nor an approval or denial. Unfortunately you will have to wait for them to make a decision. It sounds like a slightly rocky interview but not one that would suggest a denial is imminent.

It seems like they're concerned about your ability to support yourselves which, even with the sponsors is probaby not an outlandish concern to have.

The fact that you're in your twenties and still with no solid income was probably the biggest stumbling block, as they now have to make sure your sponsor can support not only their family, but your new one as well.

I'd still say in the end you're likely to get approved, this just strikes me as an interviewer who has valid concerns and needs more information.
