Hey Guys,

So my fiance and I are kind of confused/worried about how long this process is taking. We first received the NOA1 on January 8, 2013 and we recently received I believe a NOA2 on May 30, 2013 saying that "our petition was transferred and is now being processed at a USCIS office". We were wondering how long did it take for you folks after receiving that notice was a decision made? I'm getting antsy at how long the entire process will take because my work contract ends at the end of August and I need to make the necessary arrangements to cancel my lease etc. Btw, I'm a Canadian citizen and my fiance is American. We're both relatively young (25 yrs old) and all of this is very foreign to both of us.

Also, does anyone know if the Toronto consulate processes K-1 visas or is it just the Montreal one? I hear the Montreal consulate takes a while so that worries me even more! I was hoping 9 months would be more than enough time to complete the whole process...

Any information would be greatly appreciated, esp from those who were/are in the same boat as us!

Thanks!

Can you copy and paste what it says on your case when you check the website? Was your service center originally Vermont Service Center?

About 8000 files were transferred from VSC to TSC (a different USCIS center) for processing. Some have been approved, some have not. What you typed seems to suggest that it was only "transferred to a USCIS center". If it was approved, it would say "post-decision activity"

Only Vancouver and Montreal process K1 visas (Montreal is the only Canadian consulate that does CR1/IR1)

That doesn't sound like NOA2, it just sounds like they transferred you. Can the USC call the USCIS, speak to a tier 2 (ISO) and ask specific questions about where your case is? Normally you'd receive a notice saying "this has been approved" not moved to another office.

Also I suggest looking at and reading this thread in the Canada forum: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/327503-canada-immigration-k1-guide-for-montreal/ as it specifically deals with K1 visas and the Montreal consulate. :)

Hey guys so yeah you are all correct.... what we received was not an NOA2, just saying our file was transferred to the Texas Service Centre. Definitely going to skim the boards about other ppl having their cases transferred as well. I called the number listed on the mailing and the automated message said not to make an inquiry until after 180 days of the transfer date. 6 months?! Ahhhhhh!

Thanks again for all the information and the link to the Canadian forum! Hope we all get through this long process soon!

*** Thread moved from K-1 Process forum to the Case Progress subforum -- OP has clarified the situation. ***

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).
