Getting ready to send off our I-130 package to start the CR-1 process. Does anyone know how long this process will take for a spouse in Colombia?

If everything goes OK, when will we receive our interview date in Bogota? And what happens after immigration receives the I-130? Is a packet of documents to fill out then sent to the spouse in Colombia with an interview date, or is the interview date set later on?

Is any kind of temporary visa granted before the interview date?

Sorry I'm a little confused by the timeline info I've seen here. We made some mistakes and have made the immigration process more difficult! Any info appreciated.

HI there.. I am assuming that you are in the US and S/he is in Colombia and you are sending in your I-130 and supporting documents today...

The I-130 will go to the USCIS in either California or Vermont.. You will be informed with a Notice Of Action/Activity (NOA1).. Here you paperwork will sit at USCIS for a minimum of four months though lately it has been upwards of six months and for some even longer. When they review it you will get a NOA2 and your paperwork will be sent to NVC. You will then have two more sets of paperwork to send in. The NVC process can be done pretty quickly - some get it done in month, other a tad bit longer. When NVC has all the paperwork they will then set a date in Bogota for the interview which is normally 2-3 months out form NVC complete.

If you click on my timeline you can see it took 250 days from NOA1 to the day of the interview with 108 days to get from NOA1 to NOA2... Looking at how tings are moving these days your NOA1 to NOA2 will take a bit longer but the NOA2 to interview (assuming you are ready with the next round of paperwork) could take less time as they were having backlogs between NOA2 and NVC receive back then that added 5 weeks to my timeline.

So.. with the current load... 8 months is probably about right 7 is an absolute best case scenario and longer than 8 months is possible.. If you are setting expectations with your SO then tell them it looks to be about 8 months but that it is possible is could take a month or two longer.

On the other question: There is no temp visa for visiting during the waiting period.

For me I planned a visit at the midway point (4 months in) so that we concentrated on that date.. Once the NOA2 is in things move pretty fast.

1. when will we receive our interview date in Bogota?

You have a long time before interview time. The previous posted laid it out pretty well.

2. And what happens after immigration receives the I-130?

It will go more than likely to your local USCIS office and sit until its your turn. Figure 3 to 7 months

3.Is a packet of documents to fill out then sent to the spouse in Colombia with an interview date, or is the interview date set later on?

After approved at USCIS than you go to NVC where you will do alot of things. I suggest you going here to the NVC fiers thread and read Post #1 and #2

4. Is any kind of temporary visa granted before the interview date?

No such thing. If your wife wants to visit from Columbia she will need to apply for Tourist Visa and show strong ties to her country.

We made some mistakes and have made the immigration process more difficult!

What exactly do you mean by this can you explain this please.
