AOS & EAD

My husband came in on a K-1 visa (he was my fiance then). We put together AOS and applied for his EAD (work permit) at the same time. The truth is now that my husband is here I haven't really looked up any AOS or EAD information. I know for EAD it takes usually about 2-3 months to receive an approval. But what happens with AOS? My husband forwarded the two emails that he received and they gave us his case numbers for AOS & EAD and they both said the cases were routed to the USCIS National Benefits Center. I was under the impression that AOS was usually sent to the local USCIS office. Can someone let me know what happens with AOS I know we receive the NOA1 and then a biometrics appointment but what happens after and usually how long does it take for an interview or approval.

If your AOS application is sent to your local USCIS, you'll will have interview. Otherwise, it will remain at NBC, whereas you will get your 2 years GC without interview. The process at NBC is somewhere between 9 months or more. Our AOS has been at NBC for 6 months now and we knew that we will get our GC without interview.

All AOS cases go through NBC first. Then as dandk said, it will be forwarded to your local USCIS office if he's scheduled for an interview (it usually takes 2-3 months), or stay at NBC and be adjudicated there without interview (long wait, up to a year).

So, wait and see.
