Hi everyone,

My husband has his citizenship interview in Los Angeles, CA on Tuesday morning. Wanted to know if I should be there? My husband said I should just go to work but I want to make sure it's not going to seem strange to the IO>. Does the IO come out into the waiting room to call his name or is it just a clerk? Of course, I'm happy to go so if it makes a difference in the mind of the IO, I want to be there. I'd like to know how it works.

Can anyone whose been on an interview let me know your thoughts?

Thanks!

The US citizen is not required to go to the citizenship interview. All you do is sit in the waiting room until your spouse is done then you leave. My husband took the day off work for it and sat there all day in the waiting room. They never spoke to him or asked him anything. He slept most of the time.

With a wife that had to get up very early in the morning and a long drive, I insisted on driving her, good thing, spotted an accident up ahead, but knew all the back roads so did get her their on time. She would have been dead lost. We also spend time reviewing all the questions on that N-400 and civics test. Her IO came out after a 45 minute wait, we have to be there on time, but it ends there.

As far as her IO was concerned, I didn't even exist, and after that nearly hour interview, she was exhausted, but did past. She could remember every step of the interview, but the first thing I checked when we got back in the car that all of our original evidence was there. On the rest of the way home, she was able to nap.

After over four years of having the USCIC dictate our lives, that citizenship meant freedom for both of us. Definitely a husband and life thing. Ironic her IO didn't even want to meet me, but she sure wanted to see my papers. Reminded me of Nazi Germany.

Moral support is one good reason to show up with your husband. Heck, I didn't sleep, pacing was more like it during her interview, talk about feeling helpless.

I had my interview in Downtown Los Angeles on Monday last week. My husband took a day off for that. The IO went to the waiting room to call my name like most IOs did. I was reading the posters outside the interview room while my husband sat inside the waiting room so the IO didn't see us together. He didn't look for my husband during the interview.

Good luck!

I wasn't able to go to my husband's interiew, as I am a teacher and we had federal testing on the day of his interview, so I couldn't take the day off. The IO never asked about me, didn't look for me and my husband's interview was done in 15 minutes. I would have liked to go personally as support, but my presence was not necessary.

Does Spouse need to Come to Interview?

Quick response to this question is, "NO".

Indubitably not for the five year, for marriage, IO wants to be certain the applicant can answer all the question in that N-400 and legal documents on proof of a valid relationship without any help from your spouse.

For the five year, definitely not necessary. My spouse probably would've been biting through his tongue over a certain response I got about bringing something to her attention, and getting, "I don't have time to read that, you shouldn't expect I'll review the document you brought me." >.>;

Yes, don't want to see the US citizen spouse, talk to them, even if a decorated veteran of a foreign war. Just want to see his papers!

I mean, what did I do besides meeting my sweetheart from across the border? Accused of fraud, threatened with a $250,000 fine and five years in prison and was guilty of this until I could prove my innocence, with my papers of course.

Not to far fetched since Emilio Gonzales started all this, a Cuban refugee that was put in charge of the newly formed USCIS. It took the American

Association of Immigration Attorneys eight years to get rid of him. He came up with all these new forms and procedures, guy can't even speak good English. And we are not on exactly friendly terms with Cuba, haven't been for the last 50 years.

Since then, three acting directors of the USCIS, but same old forms you can't make heads or tails out of and procedures. What made matters even worse is getting stuck with two IO's that were also immigrants with the lack of ability to speak the English language, and from my guess, from countries that were former enemies of the USA!

Yes, let me see your papers!
