Hi all,

We havent received our visa yet, but I wanted to research this topic ahead of time so I wont have to waste time later on.

And I apologize to the admins as I know this isnt the forum to post under but I didnt know where to post:(

So we will both be residing in NJ. I read on a gov site that we would need to supply proof of residence. If we wanted to get married within the first month, which I do, I dont think he will have any proof since there wont be any bills or letters on his name.

Can someone who has already gone through this enlighten me on where to go/apply, (municipal court?) is there any forms, do we need to schedule a time, do they care who the witnesses are, can it get done in the same day you apply, what docs we need to bring.

Also the same site stated the license is valid for thirty days, I didnt get that part:/

Any info is appreciated. I want to be prepped for when he gets here smile.png

Also, must I (do I have to) take his last name? will that be a problem later on with AOS and citizenship and stuff?

I do want to take it but not right away, can I do so later on?

Thank youuuuu

Marriage license requirements vary by state and even by county within a state so what I did in Oregon may vary from what's done in New Jersey. Click on the "find a county" link in my signature to find the county website where you're planning to be married in NJ. From there, you'll be able to look up (or call) the department that issues marriage licenses to learn the specifics. Good luck!

Edit: You don't have to take his last name, that's completely up to you. If you want to change it later, you'll just need to follow the state details on changing one's name due to marriage.
