u.s. divorce certificate

Hi everyone just a quick question from anyone in the u.s. who has been divorced.

I know they ask for marriage and divorce certificates from previous marriages for packet 3. now what my husband has is his divorce settlement its about 10 pages long detailing the divorce and its signed by the judge will they accept this. He says they don't have an actual certificate in idaho? like the kind you can frame and put on your wall. We had a hard time convincing people in canada to issue us marriage license but they did accept it any reply would be great terry and george

In Kentucky they don't have a certificate either, just the court decree - which can be anywhere from 2 or 3 pages and up. I haven't been divorced, but worked in a law office.

02/20/07 - CASE COMPLETE!!

04/18/07 - INTERVIEW!!!! - APPROVED!!!!

What you have there is the divorce decree which is what is required.....must have official seal. I think you are good to go. Might also want to check with other experienced posters to confirm this but I am very sure

you are fine with what you have

Yes, I had a US divorce prior to my current marriage; the 'certificate' they require is the decree you have, ensure you have the notarized version (the one with the embossed stamp.)

Yes, I had a US divorce prior to my current marriage; the 'certificate' they require is the decree you have, ensure you have the notarized version (the one with the embossed stamp.)

What they require is a certified copy from the court of an absdolute decree of divorce. If he goes to the court which granted the divorce and tell the clerk what he needs it for they will issue what he needs.

The divorce settlement is normally what is provided to the court to outline what each party's division of property, debts, etc.

Once the divorce is final there should be a decree of some sort (normally just a page or two) that is signed by the judge and certified by the county recorder as final.

The final decree is what is needed...if the settlement is for some reason what was signed by the judge and certified then that would be the proper document.

Ours were from Idaho - they were just certified copies of the decree/judgement.

04/13/06 - I-129F mailed

04/18/06 - NOA1

08/30/06 - NOA2

09/26/06 - received at NVC

09/27/06 - forwarded to consulate

20/11/06 - visa in my pocket!

14/01/07 - POE

13/04/07 - marriage

27/04/07 docs sent in for AOS, EAD, AP

26/06/07 - biometrics appointment

02/17/07 - AP and EAD arrive

03/03/08 - Infopass - where the heck is my AOS interview?? No one knows!

same in North Carolina for my hubby's divorces. About 5 pages each, with the county seal on them.

divorced - April 2010 moved back to Ontario May 2010 and surrendered green card

Same for my husband's divorce in TN. He had a photocopy and took it to the clerk's office, where they put a raised seal on it. It worked for both applications. :thumbs:

I didn't submit any marriage certificate from my previous marriage. I did submit a certified copy of the divorce decree. Didn't seem to cause a problem though, we got approved.

California is the same way, but it does have a stamp on the back stating an official court document, with intitails.

K-3 Visa
