Where do I start?

I am currently living in Canada where I was born and raised. My boyfriend lives in Louisiana. I want to move there permanently. Where do I begin? I tried reading the form descriptions but I just feel overwhelmed by it. What forms do I fill out? Is there anyone I can talk to regarding this? I need help! We don't have plans to get married in the near future so marriage is not an option right now. I want to get there as soon as I can.

What do I do???

Thanks in advance!

There is no visa for boy/girlfriend, so you will need to settle for a long-distance relationship for the nearfuture.

As a Canadia citizen you can visit him for 180 days during any given year.

just to clarify: any 12 month period, not calendar year. So you can't for example go there from June 1 to December 31st 2013, then go home for a few days and then go back to US for another 6 months in 2014. You'd have to wait until June 1st 2014 to go back to the US.

You cannot move to the US permanently for this purpose, and your boyfriend cannot help you unless you get married.

You will have to get permanent residency through some other path, possibly starting with skilled employment with someone who is willing to hire you on a TN visa.

Canadian do have the option of TN visas for specified, skilled positions.

You'll need a job first in one of the needed areas.

Good luck

Could he move to Canada?
