Hi everyone,

I have been selected for further processing in the 2014 diversity visa program. Currently I am finishing my master in USA in July and I have applied for OPT from 7/30/13-7/29/14. According to the instruction, since I am in the USA, I may be eligible to file adjustment of status. I had made an appointment with the local USCIS office and I met with them yesterday. They told me that I have to wait til my visa number start process to apply for adjustment of status. Also, I tried to ask them if I am eligible for adjustment of status, they just kept telling me to wait and check on the number of visa processing each month online. I am so confused. Can anyone help me? Thank you!

Each year only a limited number of visas are given , you won a right to get in line for one. Depending on your number you may not even get more that a place in line. What is the numeric portion of your winning number is it low like 00193 or more like 99999 ? Every month the visa bulletin will list a new number for each area If your number is lower AND you are still in the US without overstay then you can adjust status.

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

Using this year as a guide it will be about a year from now when your number would be current . Will you still be in the US then ?

if the DV2014 program followed the same pattern as dv2013, your case will become current around May-June next year. then you can send your package. be advised that no visa will be issued after september 30, 2014 - midnight. plus you need to be in status when your case will become current, which means you need to find a job in your field withing 3 months of the opt activation. maybe you need to compare between the CP, and AOS and then decide

AOS

day 1 -- 04/11/2012-- package sent to Chicago

day 2 -- 04/12/2012-- package was received.

day 43-- 05/23/2012-- Notice for an interview is received for 06/26 @ 2pm

day 63-- 06/12/2012-- Received a Text & email for an update- Card production EAD/AP

day 77-- 06/26/2012-- interview / approved on the spot.

day 86-- 07/05/2012-- Received my GC in the mail.

ROC

you shouldn't disclose your case number in a public forum !!!

Where did you get that idea? Europe was at EUROPE 9,250 in December 2012 for DV 2013 - his number is lower than that. OP should get all paperwork ready to send by the end of November and definitely keep following visa bulletin on state dept website. They provide advance notice cutoff dates a month ahead for DV numbers.

No idea why some would say it would take longer than that - he is DV 2014, they will start processing visas/AOS come October 1 2013 and his number should be coming up in December this year - plenty of time for AOS if he is istill in the US. Are you all getting confused with calendar vs. fiscal year?
