We have both of our names on the rental lease, medical insurance, and car insurance.

I added my spouse to some of the utilities, but they said he will be an authorized user on the account. I asked if his name can appear on the statements along with my name and they said no….only one name will appear on the statements.

Do you think this will show enough of joint accounts? We don’t have a joint bank account yet. We were going to wait until he starts working and gets direct deposit. Does anybody know if that will cause a problem?

Ask them to send you a letter showing the name of authorized user on the account, you can make copy of contracts with his name.. you had to fill some paper to include him ? if yes, keep a simple copy. I did it !!

I am an authorized user on the credit card account of my husband, on the statements come just his name, but we did a copy of the front side of each card in the same sheet, and of our health insurance cards too.

One of the best assets is co-mingling of assets. If you have an existing bank account, I would just add your spouse as an authorized user. Also, did you add your spouse as a beneficiary? I am doing that as well. My wife is also under medical and dental insurance. We only sublease with a friend so no rental agreement. My wife does not drive so there is no use adding her name to my car insurance until she gets a license. Her name was not added in the 2012 tax return because we got married this year.

Yes, I added him as a beneficiary. I'm not really sure where I'd get a document to show that though.

So I called one of the utilities company to see if they could send out a letter showing that he's an authorized user and they said no, they don't have any letters like that to send. Seems odd that they can't produce some type of letter even if they manually have to type it.

Did you call your bank and ask them to send you a letter stating that your spouse is an authorized user? If not you should have them send you one...they can do that! Insist on it! Have it faxed or scanned and emailed to you since your date is coming soon.

If you can access your utilities/credit accounts online you can go to where your account info is and print the page showing authorized users and primary holder of account. Also make copies of cards with his name and your name with same account numbers. Same can be done with health and life insurance policies. Check and see if you can do that! If need be get them certified at notary. I just printed the pages stating benefits and beneficiaries from health/life insurance online access.

Provide what you have if they ask for co-mingling evidence. Tell them you have not opened a joint account yet, but plan to when he starts working so you can share expenses. They tend to understand that newly married couples do not have a lot of co-mingling evidence yet.

get a joint account going as soon as you can though because you also need to think ahead to when you have to file for ROC. At that time you will need lots of co-mingling evidence that spans the entire time of your marriage.
