Hi All,

I have a quick question. My cousin is my co-sponsor. He files tax for himself and his wife and two daughters ( both under the age of 10) jointly. He runs a business and has earnings more than USD 100K per year. My question is it compulsory to get I-864 A signed by his wife? And can I send the scanned copies of tax returns and I-864.

Thanks in advance :)

It's not compulsory but it is a good idea because they file jointly and also shows his wife knows what its going on. You cannot send scanned copies of the I-864; they must be the original signed forms. I know I can provide photocopies of the tax transcripts but that may vary by consulate/embassy so I'm unsure if you can send photocopies of the tax returns yourself.

If they file "married, filing separately", you technically don;t need a I=864A but the embassy may demand one anyway, so save time and get it. The I-864 and I-864A are legaly binding documents and must have an original signature- no faxing or scanning allowed.
