This may seem like a very odd question but I really need info desperately. I know that the passport of the beneficiary needs to be valid for 6 months from the date of the interview. How are the 6 months calculated? For example if the interview is to be say May 23 and the passport is valid till Nov 21, will it suffice? If you count from date to date then its 2 days short of 6 months, but if you count weeks then its 6 months.

I'm sorry for asking such a stupid question but we can't have the Pakistani passport renewed in time because there is a huge backlog here (some internal issues going on...as usual). We submitted the application for renewal more than 2 months ago but they can't give us a definite date on when it will be ready. However, for emergency purposes they gave a handwritten extension of his current passport to my husband but I don't think that will be accepted by the embassy.

Thanks in advance!

I think the reason they say 6 months is because the visa is usually valid for 6 months, and you cannot have a visa that is vaid longer than the passport that it is in. It may be easier to get a new passport, also so you have a valid one for any travel you may do as a greencard holder....
