I am guessing you probably think your statement is clever. You may even believe it to be true and informed. It is not. Just as water is a good and necessary thing, in the wrong place, like your lungs, it is lethal. Similarly, Ozone very high in our atmosphere is not only a natural occurrence but is necessary to shield us from radiation. Pollutants can reduce this protective shield and the resulting radiation can kill you by inducing cancer. At the same time that high atmospheric ozone protects us, ozone in the air we breathe is toxic. This is fact. You can have any opinion about it you want but it will remain fact.

I know this sounds a little like nuance and you RWN's don't like that but such is the case with this issue. I guess your inability or unwillingness to grasp this makes it far too much to hope that you would ever understand the complexities of how modern economies operate. So you become fodder for manipulation by the likes of the Koch brothers. All hail big oil!

Big oil sells a lot of stuff to liberals. Dam skippy you better big hail them or find yourself a tent and get used to cold showers.

<yawn> I spent yesterday working out the equilibrium constants between Ni, Co, MN, in an NA/OH/NH3/SO4 precipitating solution.

It is to produce.....well........ Happy hunting.

With this in mind and unless you happen to have handy the Gibbs free energy of formation of the +1 hydroxide metal ions, which appear to be locked away in some yet to be found obscure text and sadly appear to be required to be painfully derived in a time-consuming exercise in calculation, I really, really have no need for a chemistry lesson from you. Really.

But.....if you need the specs for ozonation / production of ozone, I just designed and built a big one. I did that not because I am a RWN ozone-lover but because ozone is a great and highly effective water treatment oxident which will nicely eliminate both organic toxins and nasty bugs. Certainly if you need it, and you appear to need it badly, I will give you some ozone schooling. Said schooling only needs to be invited.

I know this sounds a little like nuance but neither ozone production nor tropospheric ozone destruct are achieved with taxes or regulations.

During springtime in the polar regions, unique photochemistry converts inert halide salt ions (e.g. Br-) into reactive halogen species (e.g. Br atoms and BrO) that deplete ozone in the boundary layer to near zero levels. Since their discovery in the late 1980s, research on these ozone depletion events (ODEs) has shown the central role of bromine photochemistry. Due to the autocatalytic nature of the reaction mechanism, it has been called bromine explosion. It's still not fully understood how salts are transported from the ocean and oxidized to become reactive halogen species in the air. Other halogens (chlorine and iodine) are also activated through mechanisms coupled to bromine chemistry. The main consequence of halogen activation is chemical destruction of ozone, which removes the primary precursor of atmospheric oxidation, and generation of reactive halogen atoms/oxides that become the primary oxidizing species.

That is just one way, a natural way, to achieve tropospheric ozone destruction. But you knew that. Because your awareness of global climate change was raised by :devil:LORD GORE  ALL HAIL  LORD GORE

Surprise, at the extent of your knowledge. Sadness, that with that knowledge you have an incongruous lack of wisdom!

Climate change looks far more threatening than it did six years ago as the world marches toward a warming of 4 degrees Celsius higher by the end of the century compared to the preindustrial era, said Lord Nicholas Stern, a professor of economics and chairman of the Grantham Research Institute at the London School of Economics.

Can anyone find what date range "the pre-industrial era" represents?
