My wife and I are finally having our AOS interview next month; we are excited and nervous at the same time.

We are a little confused about what documents to bring; the check list (notice of action) asks for the following items but we are not sure if they are the same documents:

1) Evidence of your sponsor's and/or co-sponsor's US citizenship or lawful permanent resident status.

2) All documentation establishing your eligibility for lawful permanent resident status: what is this???

3) Your spouse's birth certificate and your spouse's evidence of US citizenship or lawful Permanent resident status.

4) Your petitioner's birth certificate and your petitioner's evidence of US citizenship or lawful Permanent resident status

5) Letter from each current employer, verifying current rate of pay and average weekly hours. Does the letter need to have the hours per week???

Seems to me that items 1, 3 and 4 are asking for the same thing.

Please advice

Thanks

1) Evidence of your sponsor's and/or co-sponsor's US citizenship or lawful permanent resident status.

2) All documentation establishing your eligibility for lawful permanent resident status: what is this??? We took it literally, and brought every shred of paper that we had accumulated with this immigration journey. They can ask to see anything.

Follow the instruction literally.

Seems to me that items 1, 3 and 4 are asking for the same thing. Not necessarily, a valid US passport would suffice for #1 (as would other documents). Regarding the rest, that is why we brought ALL of our documents, birth certs., divorce certs., valid passports, etc.

Please advice

Thanks

:time: It helps everyone that uses these forums.

Good luck.

Thank you for the answers. I still not sure what is #2.

Number 2 can seem tricky, but don't overthink it. Just bring everything that proves your application for a green card should be approved. If you're married to a US citizen, bring the marriage certificate and your US spouse passport to show that she is indeed a US citizen and that you guys are legally married. You have a bonafide relationship? Bring pictures, joint account statement, joint bills, etc... You arrived legally? Bring your passport and visa to prove it. It's simple as that. Some of the documents are already listed but I would tend to think that this item is on the list just to cover everything.

You will be there to support your case and prove that your application is complete. Bring anything that will support your case. :)

To be safe we brought all the copies of all the stuff we have ever sent or gotten during the process. So I had a copy of the entire K1 petition and evidence, a copy of everything we had sent for the AOS, etc. You usually see everyone in the lobby with huge bags, or roll around bags honestly. And yes they didn't ask us for it, but they well could have.

But yes, don't over think it, but come prepared. Bring copies of stuff that you would use as evidence if they said 'we don't believe you live together, prove it'.

Financial stuff is probably the strongest? Joint property, bank accounts, credit cards, etc. Utility bills can help if in both name, life and health insurance, car insurance. Letters from people who know you as a couple (weak evidence, but still can't hurt). Honestly though it seems like most of this stuff is for later when you apply for ROC, not AOS. But good to start getting it ready now I guess.
