That would work, for you will be stateside at the time he arrives. I can understand that you are worried, but the USCIS will not check on your whereabouts as he is processed upon arrival. They will be busy getting him admitted and having him sign the card which will become the basis for the issuance of the actual green card. You are fine.

Thanks so much for your helpful information! I really want my husband to be on my flight but the ticket is $1820 on Qantas one way to America! That is just so expensive! Hey so you are from Monaco? That's so cool.. I went to Monte Carlo in 2004, it's gorgeous!

I lived in Sydney for two years and I can appreciate how painful the fares on Qantas can be... Yiiiikes.

My other half is from Monaco, or kind of... She is German by birth but became Munegascu for personal reasons... We still keep a mooring spot and summer home there but nothing fancy... I love the place in the summer and during the races and festivals when it's full of people... and yes, it is gorgeous...

Yes, Australia is quite expensive! I am looking forward to the cheaper prices back in the States. The wages of course are not the same in America as here. Oh well.

What a great location to have a summer house, Monaco! I went to France in 2004 and we did an extension to Monaco and was so glad we did! Very beautiful!

So with the CR-1 visa my husband will still be allowed to travel outside the US correct? I remember reading somewhere that he's allowed so many months a year ouf of the US, just forget how many months it is.

It is indeed because we need little cajoling to ensure participation in family reunions!

Your husband will be able to travel as soon as he enters the US and the rule of thumb is that as a 'resident' he is expected to spend more time in the US than abroad. In other words, he can travel for business and pleasure but his travel pattern should not suggest as though he were using his green card as a replacement for a tourist visa. Makes sense?

So my husband, who has the CR-1, can go to the line reserved for US Citizens and Residents? Guess he will be a resident then, so it should be ok. That's a good tip to know, thanks. May cut down the wait time :-)

may it works different at some POE but I had advised my mom to do that last year(JFK) or so on her frist entry and she said she was asked to go to the visitors' line as she is not yet an LPR until her passport has been endorsed.

09/26/2012: Mailed I-130 from Nigeria( delayed by customs)
USCIS stage ( 66 days)
10/12/2012: NOA 1
12/17/2012: NOA 2 (case was transferred to NYC office 11/27/12)
NVC stage ( 20 days)
01/08/2013: Case # and IIN assigned ( file arrived NVC mail room 12/20/12)
01/09/2013: AOS invoiced and paid, DS-3032 emailed and mailed.
01/16/2013: IV invoiced &paid. AOS & IV mailed in one package(arrived 01/18).
01/28/2013: Case complete!!!
04/19/2013: Interview; APPROVED!!!!!
05/13/2013: POE; JFK

N-400: (3 months and 12 days)
Filed N-400 : 2011-06-17
Interview: 2011-09-27
Oath Ceremony: 2011-09-30

IR-5 for Mom Entire process took 5 months exactly
USCIS (22days)
mailed I-130 : 2011-09-30
NOA 1: 2011-10-03 (text & email)
NOA 2: 2011-10-25 (text and email)
NVC: (19 days)
Case entered and # assigned: 2011-11-18
NVC Case COMPLETED: 2011-12-07 ( 43 days from NOA 2 and 65 days from NOA 1)
Interview Date(Lagos): 2012-01- 23 Mom was late for interview
New Interview date: 2012-02-29 : VISA APPROVED

After searched and read several threads (about JFK POE), it seems the majority consensus is that you go on the visitor's line, and then they will process you differently because you are a new immigrant. I am unable to accompany my wife into the US unfortunately. Thanks!

Rather than making a new thread to ask this one question. Here I go, my wife's english is not quite good. Will that be a problem?

December 18, 2023:  Filed I-90 to renew Green Card

December 21, 2023:  Production of new Green Card ordered - will be seeing USCIS again every 10 years for renewal
