Hello everyone. I'm from Colombia and I'm here in US with an F-1 visa. I'm studying at a college to get an Associate Degree in Computer Science(i will finish it in aprox 2 semesters). I would like to stay here in US with an H1-b visa because my son was born here in Texas. ( my wife is also from Colombia) I was reading about the H1-b visa and it says that a requirement is a Bachelor degree or it's equivalent, so my question is: did someone here know what is the equivalent in experience of a bachelor degree? if i get my associate and I have 4 years of experience in the field that can it be equivalent to the bachelor?.

What other option can I have to stay here in US?. ( not being illegal)

Thanks for your time.

An H1-B is something an employer applies for on your behalf so you'd need to first graduate, then get a company willing to hire you AND apply for the H1-B. It is not something you can apply for on your own and yes, it does require a bachelor's degree. I had an H1-B many years ago and an attorney was involved, at my employer's expense. It is very difficult to get so I'd consult with an attorney if I were you.

There is a company that wants to hire me because i'm doing there an internship. they don't know much about that because they haven't hired before someone outside US. That's why I'm asking if somebody know here something or an attorney that doesn't cost that much for a visit...

It always amuses me that people studying IT can not google.

3 years experience = 1 year Uni.

The lawyer would not cost you anything, Company pays for it.

off course i google it but in some places they said that the experience equivalent to a bachelor is defined by the company, so i wanted to know if anyone had any experience with this kind of topics.

also if i get my associate it count's as a 2 year degree plus experience to complete the 4 year of the bachelor. even if i complete my associate in 1 year.

Where did you find that the company decides?

A 2 year course counts as a 2 year course, whether you complete it in 1 or 5 years.

Alan H. • In my career I have seen it vary from 5 to 15 years experience to equal a bachelor’s degree. It is extremely subjective. I am in operations management and not HR so my opinion is based on my experiences and my personal feelings. The more technical the position the more years of experience required.
