Santo Domingo will not let you reschedule your interview date. You can have your spouse attend the interview with a notarized letter from you stating that you will not be able to attend and they will give an open interview date for you to both attend at a later time.

The delay in process that you have seen in some of the of the timelines is when people have delayed sending paperwork in at the NVC stage. Once the interview is scheduled there isn't much you can do. Hope everything works out for you.

Delaying the process is done by those acquiring "marriage visas". As for the K1 visa, its not as simple. Especially in this country.

-By delay how much time are you thinking of?

-What reason caused your denial before? Is it still an issue? (not to be all in your business, just trying to help).

You will need to contact them and ask to reschedule. Be prepared to tell them why. They may give you an "open cita". Meaning you can attend the interview on which ever day you can within the next month or 2. It all depends.

How to contact the Visa Information Center

Persons in the Dominican Republic should call 1-809-200-3232. Persons in the United States must call 1-877-804-5402. THERE IS NO ADDITIONAL COST TO THE APPLICANT. The Center is staffed with operators Monday through Friday (including most American and Dominican holidays) from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Santo Domingo time. You will be able to leave a message that you are ill and unable to keep your appointment. Someone from our call center will be contacting the applicant via telephone to reschedule the appointment. Please expect a call in approximately a week.

Email the Embassy and ask to reschedule. It's a simple as that. They speak English and are very nice.

the previous denial was about 5 years ago with a different person. i know i will be looked at more harshly because this the 2nd time i have applied for a k1 visa. my previous experience and the consulate was awful and not just because it resulted in denial, i was interviewed one on one by a consular officer in a small room with what i think was a one way window. he was really hostile and said that my fiance was paying me, told me i could be prosecuted sentenced for up to 10 yrs in jail and pay a $25,000 fine. we were really unprepared. we showed up empty handed, no evidence, not expecting to be interviewed, no forms - nothing. i had hired a lawyer and trusted him to prepare us. he is an immigration attorney but because this is South Texas he deals with much different immigration scenarios. he probably shouldn't have taken the case in the first place but again. of course this time I know what to expect. my paperwork and evidence are in order, i have extra copies of EVERYTHING. i have learned so much from everybody on here...i guess i'll leave the cita as is hustle to get everything together - i'm a nervous wreck though!

As Mr. Tee explain the only delay that can be done is those that going through marriage visa, where you can take hold of as far as sending in paper works, since we have to pay the fees first. K1.

So unfortunately in your case you can't delay the process, You can try to reach out to the Embassy and see if they can reschedule, but please be advised by doing so your a running a risk since DR is a very high busy Embassy and it can probably take your a few month to even get a new date.

Now my personal advise to you is, you have learn that you can NOT go empty handed to the interview, you have a lot of people on her who have went through the K1 route recently just read there reviews, and the question that have been asked, most importantly complete all the required forms, have the correct payment amounts that are need the day of the cita, and take ANY AND ALL EVIDENCES that you both may have in some case the consular doesn't even look at them like in my case but I still took it anyways, better safe then sorry. As far as you have filing a petition in the past others have done it and have gotten APPROVED successfully just make sure you speak with the true and explain to them the situation and that you was unprepared etc....

I wish you the best of the journey I hope all goes well and don't be nervous everything will find it's way to work out.

I understand where you are coming from I am also a teacher and it would be more convenient to go to the cita in the summer when school is out but i dont think the consulate gives a hooot about that , they just want to prove that you guys are for real.

Just take time out of your busy schedule and practice with your girl. Take turns answering any and every single thing you can think off. Remember to the consulate they are out to get you so any difference in your answers will probably have them thinking that shes in it for other reasons.

I am married and I practice with my husband all the time so that we are in sync.

I honestly wish you the best and i pray that you guys are approved and have a wonderful marriage.

my take is that a delay because you are too busy sounds like you don't have your priorities straight. shouldn't your fiance be more important than work itself? I took 2 days off for my interview... it's not that hard.

then again, i took 3 months off a year ago to meet her extended family and spent good quality family time with her.
