As I have read most of the posts in here about Congressmen and Senators that "helping" applicants about immigration process..

I wonder what & who are they really.

I wonder how to contact them.

Are they REALLY helpful??

So my Filipino fiance (now USC by naturalization) - I asked him about congressmen and senators but told me he does not have any idea about them and how to contact.

May I know from you guys who really knows how they work on our cases on immigration?

please answer:

- who are they?

- what are they?

- how to contact them?

- how they will help us?

(Are they attys?? like here in Philippines that needs to pay for the service?)

Sorry guys, I really don't know. Could you please help me to understand?

Thanks!

:)

Here's how to find and contact your Senator: http://www.senate.gov/general/contact_information/senators_cfm.cfm

Here's how to find your Congressman: http://www.house.gov/representatives/find/

They are the elected officials that represent the area you live in on the Federal level. As for how helpful they are, I can't speak from personal experience. I'm guessing it's highly dependent on the individual elected representative.

Many of them are attorneys but not all of them. You do not need to pay them. They have been elected to serve your State/District...so they should be willing to help their constituents.

- who are they?

- what are they?

This is not a simple answer, but if you must, they make the laws for the U.S. as well as some other duties/responsibilites/privileges.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Member_of_Congress

In the Philippines the below is almost the same thing as a congressman in the U.S.

http://www.congress.gov.ph/members/

- how to contact them?

See the other guy's post. Phone call, email. letter, fax...take your pick. Normally, you should contact the Congressman for your fiance's residence. Everybody has at least a Senator, and member of the House of Representatives.

- how they will help us?

They may or may not. Read all posts here

(Are they attys?? like here in Philippines that needs to pay for the service?)

No they are not attorneys. You can't pay them even if you wanted to (that would be against the law). Read more on "Member of Congress"

Sorry guys, I really don't know. Could you please help me to understand?

Thanks!

Tell ur fiance to follow those links so he could find the specific people he needs to reach out too...

From what state is your fiance? Each state has 2 Senators and he is under a district with a congressman...

they don't get fees... all you have to do is just call their office tell your concern or problem. basically they will let you fill out a privacy form.

With that they will hopefully help you inquire and follow up your case with USCIS or any Service Center.

When TWO HEARTS are meant for each other, NO DISTANCE is TOO FAR... NO TIME is TOO LONG... and NO OTHER LOVE can BREAK THEM APART...

He goes to the website for his State and he can find who his congress/person is, he fax or email an approval

form to their office and they check on status of your case if its 6 mths pass the the date you expected a

response, its free , however they cannot make uscis approve you.
