How close to the border

My husband recieved his EAD in January, we are still waiting on decision for residency card. Does anyone know if he can travel as far as Presidio, TX which is right on the Mexican/US border but still in TExas? There is a check point in Marfa which is 40 minutes before Presidio. I have to cross over to the Mexico side but wanted to leave him in Presidio, Texas. Someone said he couldnt go to Presidio even though it is still in TExas because when we are heading back home and we pass through the check point in Marfa Texas they might send my husband back to Mexico because they'll think he crossed over to Mexico.

He should be fine. If he encounters a checkpoint he should state that he is NOT a US citizen and should present his EAD as evidence of his legal presence in the US.

Ok, Good. Thank you. WE were just paranoid that the checkpoint in Marfa would assume he crossed into Mexico since Presidio sits on the border. And I did not want to drive through the mountains by myself

Not so fast. Are we talking about a checkpoint south of Marfa? There wasn't room for one on that highway, that I recall (but it's been 3 years since I've been there). Is there a checkpoint in Marfa? Is it new? I don't recall one there, but I was always heading south and then came back in through Big Bend Ranch State Park.

At any rate, the Presidio port of entry would be responsible for checking your husband in if he actually went into Mexico. The inland checkpoints should have the same information available; if they don't, tell them to call Presidio if they're that concerned.

Whatever happens, do everything in your power to AVOID the checkpoint south of Alpine. The agents there are completely rogue.

I miss Ojinaga and wish that I could return. On both visits, besides having a very nice time overall, I ate an entire pollo by myself at Pollo Feliz.

Wait, now I'm confused, lol I thought it was as you were leaving Marfa on your way to Presidio. I'll have to double check though. I guess if I call the CBP office they will be able to tell me?

MMmmm...Pollo Feliz is so good. There is another place called Silverado's on the mail road entering Ojinaga that is really good. NOt sure how long it has been there because I just started going to Ojinaga regularly last year.

Often there are checkpoints south of the main cities, but they stop people only if they're heading northward.

The CBP ports are usually VERY helpful if you call with questions. I like to wait till nighttime, because they're usually less busy then. Here's the link for Presidio, with their phone number:

I've been to OJ only twice, but I loved it. The gift shops & other shops for Americanos are about 6 blocks uphill from the main street (turn onto the street with Pollo Feliz on it). There's apparently a new mall, too, which I'd like to see.

OJ is arguably the most unspoiled border town in Mexico, and I wish I could go again. Getting there takes almost an act of Congress, because of how isolated Presidio is.
