Changing my last name

Okay so, because my husband is Icelandic and women don't traditionally assume the last name of their spouse upon marriage, hubs and I went back and forth about taking his last name for a long time. Finally, we agreed that I would take his last name, but now we are almost through with the visa process and I'm not sure when is the best time to change my name legally. I'm assuming after would be the best time? And once I do complete my name change, what is the proper process for notifying the US authorities so we don't run into any problems with his visa?

If you are looking to change name in near future, I don't have good answer. However, one can change name when he/she becomes a US citizen

I am also the USC and plan on taking Husband's last name. Since yours is the beneficary it does not matter in terms of timing. I plan to do mine when he comes in so we can go to SS office and DMv together. Unless I hear something that says the hospital wnt give our baby his last name unless I change mine then I will move quickly without him.

it appears you are in iceland now? Just verify what travel procedure with regards to travel documents and new last name for YOU.

01/08/2013: Case # and IIN assigned ( file arrived NVC mail room 12/20/12)

01/16/2013: IV invoiced &paid. AOS & IV mailed in one package(arrived 01/18).
