We sent in the I-485 packet for my wife (K-1) and step-daughters (K-2) around the 19th of Feb. Received text messages on a Sunday night at midnight (!) and received the hard-copy I-797C today (03/06/13). Our numbers are searchable on-line.

I see a lot of people in this forum talking about doing "walk-in" appointments to get the biometrics done early. How is this done? How do I know what field office to go to to try this tip? Will it speed up things? It will take us a couple hours to go to a city with an office (I think we would go to Detroit or Cleveland). Any suggestions are appreciated.

One more question - how long after the interview does it typically take to get the green card? It seems some folks here have gotten interview appointments quickly (good for you!) - what happens after the interview?

You will receive Biometrics letter within the next two weeks that tells you appointment date and place. Walk-ins is considered when you go earlier than your scheduled appt. it varies if it speeds up your process, since you are a K-1
