My husband (I-130 petitioner) often has trouble receiving his mail, i.e. my husband's landlord takes his mail by accident and doesn't realize it until weeks later at which time it is returned. To prevent losing time in our visa process, I am frequently checking the status of our petition on USCIS My Case Status thinking that once I see the petition is approved, I can put my husband on 'mail alert'. Is it true that all approved cases will appear online at My Case Status first and then the physical NOA2 will arrive in the mail second?

Thank you!

Thanks for your quick and helpful response. It sounds like my husband will need to regularly check his mail.

To answer your question, I have created a profile on the My Case Status website and tried to link my MSC### Receipt Number. However, my Receipt Number is not yet in the system so I was unable to link it. Each day I check to see if the Receipt Number is in the system and as soon as it is, I will add email alerts.

It is pretty frustrating that even if you have the Receipt Number from the NOA1, you can't add email alerts until it appears in the system... unless I am doing something incorrectly.

Its like they don't know they have other service centers besides VSC and CSC. Well you are doing the right thing. Good for you being proactive.

Don't freak out if you cannot see your status updated especially with MSC. That service center is notorious for not updating the stats. I sent my AOS application out in July 2012 and was not able to see my status until January 2013.
