Hi everyone, just have a quick questions about my joint sponsor..

I have had my mom fill out and send me her I-864 and taxes since she is my joint sponsor.. Having the papers in my hands I see that she filed her taxes jointly with my father..

My mother did not add in my fathers income on the I-864 in total household income since she makes enough alone.. She only put in total income..

My only concern is that on her tax return it shows the totals between the both of them.. is this okay? Should my father have filled out and I-864A??

Thanks!

Chilegringa,

We are in a similar situation with my father (who is joint-sponsoring my husband for a CR-1). I am presently finishing the paperwork for the Affidavit of support and will be sending it out this week. in my case, my father was able to joint-sponsor him without using my mother's income but they also file jointly. He didn't want to have to go though and figure out how much they made separately and decided just to have my mother fill out the 864A to include both of their incomes and to avoid the whole "joint filing" issue. Also, we decided it would be best to be generously over the poverty limit guidelines instead of marginally over it. So in the end we decided it would be easiest to use their joint income.

Unfortunately I can't directly answer the question, hopefully someone who is more experience with this can help.

Thank you for your quick reply.

I'm trying to prepare on my mother's behalf as much as possible before asking her to do any of the work so that way she doesn't feel overwhelmed.

For the letter from the employer, is there a formal/ specific format to go by? If not, I'll just find something on the Internet.

Thanks again

hi

on company letterhead, it can be someone from human resources or the boss, stating name, job position, how long has she been working there and how much is her salary per hour or per month and signed.
