Im a fishing guide in alaska and just returned from traveling around south america. While down there I met a girl and soent a couple of weeks with her. I really want to fly her up to alsaska to visit me for a while. I am returning to visit her next October but I want get her up here. I have been reading a lot of these forms and it appears that will be quite difficult. Is there some way I can sponsor her and sign something saying where well be and for how long and take responcibility to get her back on the plane to Colombia. I read a bit about the fiancee and spouce visas and that may what I want to persue down the road, but I would rather have her visit first then send her home to see how things work out? What are my options?

You have no options.

She can apply for a tourist visa, and if she has VERY strong connections to Colombia, it might be granted. If her connections are weak, it probably won't be.

How about some more info--how old is she, does she work, what is her profession, does she have a bank account, a house, kids, etc, etc. In other words, what is the risk that she could just walk away from Colombia...

There is no easy way to sign responsibility to fly her here. It is easier for you to go and spend time with her. And if you guys get serious and fall in love then there are certain visas you can apply for. But that is way down the road.

She is young and in school. Her family lives there and they have money. No kids. Pretty much just like every other student around the world, unfortunately she happens to be colombian. I would make sure she went home but guess that isnt very convincing to the colombian gov. So if looking down the road, as I said I really like her and lets face it, not a lot of options in Ak, how would a fiancee visa work. Wouldnt want to commit to marriage till I lived with the chick a bit in the states. Dont get me wrong I love colombia but im an american through and through and ill live here till the day I die.

You are actually trying to convince the US government, they are the ones that grant travel visa to America.

I am in the same boat you are filling a DS-160 for a B-2 travel visa.

Showing ties to the country like a full time job, full time student especially if the school is paid in full for next term (reason to return right), owning property, having some sort of bank account, kids.

There is a form I-134 that states you will take care of all financial concerns for her trip (if her parents have money and like you, it is best to have her pay her own way.)

There are many stories where B-2's are granted and of course many broken heart stories when B-2's are not granted. Your best best start to research and have her fill out the DS-160

Don't let negativity stand in your way there is always hope but research is better than luck for sure.

Be Well

There is not really a visa where you can bring here her and try living with her to see if it works or not and if it does not work out you will put her on the flight back to her home country.

Fiance visa is where you will spend significant amount of resources and time to get the visa and once she is allowed in the country you have 90 days to get married.

Okay, situation looks like a long shot. Going to follow the great advice and have her begin the process of applying for a travel visa. Now say that doesnt work. I will be going back down there next offseason and spending a couple of months with her. Now hypothetically say I want to propose and get the ball rolling on a fiancee visa. I understand that it can take 6-9 months. What are we talking about when you say significant amount of resources. 1, 000, 2, 000 us more not talking about plane tickets or anything like that. Thank you guys for youre help in this. This is all very complicated for something that seems like it should be simple.

Once she fills out the DS-160 you will want her to gather all documents that ties her to her country. (School records, bank accounts etc etc.) The key is to have the evidence during the interview process that she will return to her country. These travel visa are for 6 months so that is actually a nice trial period don't you think?

With that being said I have had my GF not send her DS-160 in (just for a few days) so I can future research the best method to get the B-2 Visa. I thought the I-134 was a good idea but the few people that responded to my post say it was not a good idea. Not sure what to think or who's opinions to trust at this point. It seems the interviewers at the Embassy have the power to grant or not grant visas for what ever reason they see fit, so there is not really a cookie cutter way to proceed.

K1 (fiance) visa does cost more in regards to tourist visa, it does take significantly long time to process the visa and efforts to gather all the documents and supporting documents etc.

K1 is around 1800 plus or minus couple hundred dollars, there is a K1 guide on this site under the Guide section you can take a look at it.

You can try if you like but I-134 is not a good idea for a fiance or GF, i-134 would mean she has more weaker ties to her home country and chances of her returning back home are less.

I-134 might be ok if it was for your parents, as son you would be taking care of them and you will be responsible for them.
