Hi Everyone,

I am new to this forum. I recently got my 10 Year green card and eligible to apply for citizenship.

I plan to send in the complete citizenship package by 3/1/2013.

I will be traveling to Costa Rica for vacation for 7 days on April 19th to April 27th. I believe I will get a Bio date somewhere around March 3rd week if I send my papers in on March 1st.

I need help with the following questions:

1) Can I travel after applying for Citizenship ?

2) What is average processing time to get an interview date from the time of applying. I will be applying to the Dallas, TX office.

Thank for all your help

-Salnik

You can apply for citizenship 90 days before 1 year.

Nope, you can't travel while you're in the process for citizenship.

As of now, processing time in dallas takes 5 mos but maybe faster than that.

That's incorrect, you can travel during the citizenship process, and the officer during the interview will update your n400 by adding the new trip

just make sure you don't miss your bio appointment

Ok.. Just want to clarify... It IS ok to travel after applying for citizenship? We applied in January, did biometrics in February and have the interview in march... Each week or so, he has to leave the USA for a day or two for work (repairing ships)... My understanding is that he brings info regrading each trip to the interview and we will be ok... Also, between the interview and oath, meh will inevitably have to leave the country for work, will this be an issue? The first response to this thread got me a little worried. Can someone clarify for me?

3/11/2013: interview.. Approved

4/4/2013. : Oath! Now a U.S. citizen!

Just to reassure people here: It is perfectly fine to travel internationally during naturalization process. I went to Canada for 7 days after my interview, but before the ceremony. Your green card and passport is all you need to get back to the US, and you'll have to mention that you traveled to the USCIS officer when asked, but that's it. There are no complications or delays related to that, assuming the trip is of normal vacation/business kind of trip for a few days/weeks.
