Hi everyone,

Does anyone know which affidavit of support is needed for the London consulate?

My girlfriend being only 17 at the moment and with us wanting to get married when she is 18, but me move over there so i can be there for her 18th birthday, which affidavit of support would be needed? I know the I-864 form states that they have to be atleast 18, yet I-134 the form does not state an age.

In the K1 visa guide it says that it depends on the consulate. Anyone know which the London one deals with?

Cheers,

Phil

Thanks for the help!!

I was wondering also if anyone else has or is in a similar position with an american girlfriend who was 17. I want to find out if there are any complications or anything before we start filling out the papers.

Thanks,

Phil.

Phil,

The age of consent to marry in the USA is 18 or older, except in Missippi.

Your girlfriend may need her parent's consent to marry in order to petition for you - do you have their blessing?

If you want to do a thorough job of uncovering potential complications, invest in a consultation with a US immigration lawyer.

Probably not only their consent is needed but their money, too.....unless her income is high enough that she can support herself AND a husband at the tender age of 17/18....?

She does not have a job yet, but her uncle has said he would sponsor us. Is this OK?

As long as you have a cosponsor that you trust (and they trust you) then that will be fine. Best of luck!

She would still be your official (main) sponsor, but since she does not fulfill the requirements, you'll need a co-sponsor. And yes, that could be her uncle.

Good luck,

CW

Phil,

You can try the AILA referral service. Perhaps the US consulate in London has a list of US immigration attornies with offices in London. Or perhaps the London telephone directory for businesses, or business search engines on the internet.

That would be ok, but bear in mind that your uncle then has to submit proof of 125% of the poverty guidelines of his family and the both of you too. I sent you the breakdown of the list of how much this is. So for example let say your uncle is married and has one child at home that he supports, he then has to provide for a family of 5.

Does this make sence?? Lina (UKC)

Lina, actually the USC doesn't need to be included in the Joint Sponsor's household (unless they are living there).

Uncle would need to cover himself, his spouse, thier 1 child + the beneficiary.
