I can only speak for myself on that one. Women from PI are very loving and tend to be traditional. Thats not to say any other asian women are not like that but for me at least Luz fits what I want in a wife perfectly.

I think it's because these guys are all addicted to Chicken Adobo.

ROFL!!

My best friend and former roommate was half-Filipino (and half-German....talk about a weird combination!) His Mom would make Adobo, egg rolls, and such and bring them over to our apartment. We were also never out of rice, as she'd buy 50 pound bags and give one to us. LOL

Blake's parents plan to buy a plantation in the Philippines and retire there.

As for the "why" question... I think it's because Blake's Dad, who is German-American (His Dad immigrated from Germany):

1) wanted a woman with "traditional" values and

2) Was stationed in the Philippines and met his future wife there.

Their relationship has caused more than a few comments from their American peers. Blake's Dad is very "proper" , "authoritative", and strict. It's his house, his rules, schedules must be followed, etc. He isn't, however, cruel, abusive, or anything like that. Just very strict.

Blake's Mom, on the other hand, was raised to be in a subservient role; to allow the man to make the rules of the house, let him be in charge, etc. This is what she expects, and what makes her happy. They have been together for something like 35 years, and still love each other very much. *shrugs* It works for them.

My ex-wife was hispanic...followed by a girlfriend from China, a Puerto Rican, and a woman who had a Korean mother and an African American father before being introduced to Jinky (Philippines) through mutual friends. I have 4 living brothers, all who married women from different countries, Equador, Germany, Samoa, and Czech Republic. On my father's side, his mother was an Irish immigrant who married an American with English ancestry. On my mother's side, her great grandfather was an Irish immigrant who married a Comanche (Native American).

Even with Jinky, her father is 1/4 Chinese.

Based on the people here in VJ, there seems to be several countries where most of the foreign spouses come from - Canada, UK, and the Philippines. My hunch is that language (English) comes into play followed by similar cultures. Compared to the rest of Asia, the Philippines is more westernized and proficiency in English is emphasized in schools. Their culture also seems very similar to Mexican culture.

I'll have to ask the hubby when he gets back from his camping trip but I'm certainly not the "traditional" mold of a Filipina wife, I guess as I was raised in Oz.

I don't really cook and one time I did do laundry...I flooded the basement floor lol.

And I'll only vacuum when Sears make a ride-on one ;) jk

By traditional I just meant being great cooks and stuff like that...

To be honest, the idea of being raised to be in a "subservient" role makes me cringe...and to 'expect' the man to be in charge, it just implies an inferior role in a relationship. Like the womam can't/won't make her own mind up or stand up for herself, like 'whatever you say honey' mentality...

:yes::thumbs:

Jinky's parents recently visited her two sisters who are working abroad in Ireland as RN's - they've been there now about 6 years. Her sister Jennith's fiance who is Irish said one morning as he was ironing his shirt, the father looked at him like he was wearing women's underwear. :P The father then called out to his wife to come and iron the shirt. Jinky and I just laugh about it. I think all cultures go through their own timeline of progress - Jinky's generation is much less into such rigid roles. What I find a bit ironic is that the Philippines have now had 2 women Presidents and they're democracy is much younger than ours (USA).
