Its not really a surprise since she already knows she's getting married. Part of the surprise is not knowing you want to marry. It could still be a surprise but it wont have the same appeal as if you were doing it before agreeing to get married.

yah thats right.well im stil going to kneel down and giver her an engagement ring no matter what..thank u so much..

Yeah, you could still do that. That is admirable and romantic one especially for Filipino couples. I'm sure the more she would be surprised of your idea when she gets to the US. Though you both have already talked about marrying, but still you would do traditional and formal way of asking your lady for marriage -- kneeling down and give her engagement ring - for me, that is even awesome. Go for it, your Fiancee would definitely love it. I'm so glad that you still remain to hold on one of our Filipino cultures. Keep it up and good luck :dance:

yes i know sir..i wanted to let her feel there still a spark in our relationship.but do u think that agreeing to get married and planned to get married is already a proposal?.so if they ask her in the interview about how/where/when did i proposed?she will just answer them that we talked and getting married when i was in the philippines last year?.and is that a good answer already?.

Yes, that could be a good answer. Just be honest to the consul. Just in case that would be asked during the interview, just tell the CO that the plan of getting marriage was extensively discussed during your visit in the PI, though there were no formal engagement like party, etc., however, the intention was already expressed especially that you both have already signed a letter of intent to get married. Again, good luck and stay in love...and yeah, it is best to always do something to ignite more spark in your relationship -- don't stay complacent especially when you both have been married for long time - always surprise her with little thing that make your relationship even better and spicy. Of course, above all, make God as the center of your marriage. God bless :)

I see that you are concerned/worried that they might ask her when/how did you propose. You can ask her to marry you and when she says yes..there you have your proposal. If you are concerned about not telling the truth during the interview. It sounds like there shouldn't be any problem. Best of luck to you guys

I'm not too far from you in North Carolina

He did'nt kneel down, or even asked me about marrying him. But we are discussing a lot for our future, even kids name  . We have this mutual understanding, funny but while i was doing my letter of intent, had a weird feeling ( at least for a Filipina) to say that i will be marrying this guy, who didn't even officially asked me to. But i love the fact and the thought of marrying him. I have no worries for questions at interview, i maybe have no ring but i have the genuine love to support everything. I hope, he will surprise me when i get there, still want to hear those magic words. To add, we've known each other for more than 8 years now. Had to go through a tough annulment ( took time, big time).

In my culture, we rarely get proposed to. We just talk about it, decide to do it, and the man usually asks the parents' (dad's) permission before or after. During my interview, I was asked that question. And as the CO knew of our culture, I told her that we just talked about it and decided together and she accepted the answer. As long as you tell the truth and you don't create an elaborate false story where you both are saying something different, you should be fine... Just as I say, tell the TRUTH.

Correct me if I'm wrong. I think what happened to you and your "fiance" is that you talked about getting married and having kids BUT you have not given her an engagement ring. A ring is not necessary. My fiancee gave me a promise ring promising that he will love me and no one will come after me. We were already talking about marriage then. He just made it into an engagement ring by taking out the same promise ring (since he bought it in the US and was gonna have his mom give it to me when she visits the PI) and via skype told me that hopefully in the future I will accept the ring and remember that in the future he will give me more than just another ring.

The bottom line is, a ring is a symbol. Being engaged is a mutual understanding that the two of you will get married to each other. You can tell the CO of all the times that you have talked about getting married but think hard on when was the time when you said to each other "yes I will marry you". The moment when there was a mutual understanding even it is as simple as a chat in YM as long as it was true and firm. No parties, no ring, no kneeling down needed. Just your understanding. Think when, how, and where that was and you have all the answers to your 1million question.

Also if you are still scared, tell the CO when, how, and where you made it known to the public (public like the parents or friends). Filipino culture has this "pamamanhikan" where you ask for her hand in marriage. For sure that makes it "official" since it is based in tradition.

Good luck! Hope I helped somehow.

thank u so much for the quick reply sir. We planned to do fiance visa to be together and get married during my stay in the Philippines Dec 2011- may 2012 but is that considered a proposal sir?. what if they ask her when did i proposed or something like that?im so worried about the next steps.

You say it right here, you and she discussed it with her to do the visa and get married................It doesn't have to 'formal' proposal like I know filipinos normally do. So you are fine.
