Good idea. Hopefully you will find some here on VJ that are in the Chicago area. Is it snowing there currently?

You might wish to post some sort of an invitation in the "Moving Here and Your New Life in America' forum as well, and extend the invitation out to other VJ members than just K-1s. We've done a number of 'meet ups' here in the Atlanta area and I know there have been others who have had get to gethers as well. The nice thing about having members who are in different parts of the immigration journey is that you get to share experiences and pick their brains as well. I have friends here now who I have met through VJ, pretty well all of whom came here on K-1s, from a variety of countries (along with the Canadian contingent :D ).

The easiest thing to do is to just choose a date about 4 to 6 weeks in advance, choose a venue (a restaurant where you can sit and chat is a good idea), then post a general invitation in the forums, and if you wish you can identify some other members who are in your area (go to the Members link on the toolbar, click on Advance Search, then type in your city where it asks and it will bring back a list of members who list that city in their profile) and send them personal invitations by PMs. I made up a sign that said Visa Journey and brought it with us at our gatherings so people were able to identify our group.

Good luck with this, and have fun.:)

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”
