AP can last anywhere from a few weeks, to a few months, to a year or more, there is no timeline as to how long it will last, and no one will be able to tell you how long it will last. Every case is different. Unfortunately there is nothing you can do but wait and continue to inquire as to the status of your AP to the DOS and to the consulate. I feel your pain, my husband had to endure AP. Good luck.

i've heard "every case is different" from everyone DOS ppl, family friends nd read it constantly in posts here...i just want to know so i can either have hope if other peoples ap finished quickly or brace myself for the wait if their cases took a year...

Tuhii: there is no timeframe for AP. now the average for Bangladesh is somewhat 2 months to 5. However I've seen some getting out after 7+ months and even after a year. Don't start to panic at this moment, beside it won't help you anyway. Continue reaching out to embassy for updates every once ona while. If you are nearing your 5th month and without any news, ask the USC to reach out to the local congressmen or senators so they can send an official inquiry. Keep in mind, the extent of their inquiry would give you a vague status like "it's still in AP" or "it will be over soon" and something like that. So get ready for the pause.

In the flip side once you are approved you may not have enough time for lots of things. Use this time for it :-). Just sit tight.

Good luck

Hi Tuhii, Don't loose heart, I know it is a very difficult time to go through. Unfortunately there is not much you can do and every case is different and there is no answer, but just to share, My husband was on AP for 8 months in Dhaka Embassy. You can take Hellraiser's suggestions, He always has good suggestions :) I did the same with my local congressman. It does not speed up AP but its just another way to inquire. I hope your AP wont be too long. Just be strong and before you know it, AP will be over. I also called DOS every 2-3 weeks to get updates..
