And he also said but somehow this got left out----"Where Akin was wrong, Gingrey said, was in suggesting that a pregnancy could never or almost never result from rape. " All he said is that it can happen and went on to say he does not support what he said.

What he said is a fact. Something liberals don't understand..

No, that's not what I don't understand. What I don't understand is him talking about Akin's statement, and then talking about a teenage girl lying about being raped out of fear of the consequences from her parents.

Because saying some people lie about being raped is true. Saying pregnancy doesn't happen from rape is untrue. Comparing the two statements doesn't make sense because they're two completely different topics.

Don't make this into a "liberal" or "right-wing" issue. It isn't.

What is mind boggling is the suggestion that a pregnancy resulting from a rape might in any way, shape or form, indicate the rape was legal. I really am surprised they haven't yet come up with the definition of 'justifiable rape'. To be sure, all this beating around the bush can't lead to any other conclusion!

But when did rape need to be categorized in this sense? I bet these same guys legitimately rape their wives too.

There are stupid. Plain and simple. Another genius said that rape is the same thing as having a child out of wedlock.

No, the suggestion is that leaving a rape loophole in anti-abortion legislation would just cause women to cry rape if they wanted to get an abortion. They're saying that there does not need to be an exception for rape because if a woman really does get raped, she won't get pregnant. Hence, if the woman got pregnant, obviously she wasn't really raped. That's what the essence of Akin's statement was and now you have this buffoon from Georgia basically endorsing this bullshite.

I always thought that as well. Obviously if you're pregnant from a rape you wanted 'it'

In which case provides further evidence to his ignorance, in that abortion has been legal for decades now, and women in the US have the prerogative to have an abortion without explaining themselves to any politicians! Fortunately, we do not have any more pressing matters with which to deal in our nation, so our politicians can indulge in their flights of fancy unhindered!

I haven't been following this too closely, but I've heard about it. Thanks for spelling it out. Now I understand their logic.

#1 They a morons for believing this. #2 If they thought this would help them politically, see #1.

Maybe you haven't noticed but the Republicans have been busy for a few years now making the grand end-run around Roe vs. Wade. There are several states now where no abortion provider practices anymore. Abortions are still legal in all those states - Roe vs. Wade says it is - you just can't get one.

This should be used as the template to approach gun rights. :)

:help:

All the guy was saying is that if a woman is raped, the stress " could potentially" keep her from conceiving as opposed to normal sex. I think where they keep messing up is say legitimate. They should have just said rape and left it alone.

The point was that there have been cases, when someone came up pregnant, and claimed rape to cover the truth. They should not have touched that subject.

He went on to say that although it can happen, a woman can very likely get pregnant from rape and t hat he does not support the position of Akin.

My how words get twisted.

I am pro choice BTW... I just think the guy is not being fairly quoted.

So you are saying that anyone that believes trauma and stress could affect conception is an idiot.

I bet every almost every OBGYN in the world would disagree with you.

I do agree the Repubs should stay out of peoples reproductive health issues, but also the dems should not demand we fund them.

No but to suggest that the tens of thousands of rapes that result in pregnancies each and every year were not actually rapes is offensive and reflects on the sheer stupidity of the person making that claim. To endorse such offensive stupidity as the Georgia buffoon now does it almost comical. Only it isn't funny.

Even if he is being unfairly quoted, I don't see how you can wiggle out of that one. Why say "could potentially" at all?

Here's an idea. Forget about birth control pills. Just beat the $hit out of your SO while having sex. Surely she wont become pregnant.

(Before some mod comes along and throws me in the clink with Kip, I meant the above sarcastically)

Of course they can live with it. When their wives and daughters need abortions they can always fly them to France, on our dole; so why not pander to the more superstitious and rake in some rwnj votes?
