Hi to everyone on this forum. I am new to this process, just filled the I-130 less than a month ago, but am trying to plan ahead, and I need a little help.

I am petitioning for my mom, who lives in Bosnia. She is currently visiting me, and is going back next month. I am trying to prepare as many papers for her while she is here, it's so much easier, and yesterday I learned about this DS-3032 form. I originally thought I would just be making copies/translating/notarizing her documents here so she could take them with her to send when DS-230 arrives, but now I am learning that I could do that for her.

So, my question is, is that a good idea?

Can I just download DS-3032, DS-230, and DS-2001 (is there anything else?), fill it out now, have her just sign it, so I have her original signature, and I can mail it for her from here?

DS-3032 asks to place a barcode at the top. What's that about?

The process flowchart says that the agent (me) should send her DS-230, with required documentation. Is that her civil documents? She brought her original documents for me to copy and translate, and she was going to take the originals back. Should I keep the originals to send and she keeps copies? She still needs police and court papers, which she would get when she goes back. Could she fax/scan those, or does she have to mail me the originals?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Yes, fill out the forms and have her sign where needed.

You will need to hand in her originals AND a photocopy to NVC.

Really read up on the NVC process as you can get a lot accomplished while your mom is here and mak your life much easier later on!

Thanks! Yeah, we pretty much decided I will be representing her and sending DS-3032, DS-230, and all the original civil documents.

I will be sending originals in Bosnian and translation in English. Do I need to send a photocopy of Bosnian or English?

We got her passports photos taken last night. I don't know what else we can get accomplished while she is here. She still needs to get those police and court papers when she returns and will have to mail them to me. Do those also need to be translated?

We also only have a copy of my dad's death certificate, but it seems like they are strict about it and she will have to get the original of that one as well.

Hey you might want to read the NVC filers thread and have mom sit with you just so you don't miss anything. You don't need to mail DS-3032. Read Post #1 and #2.

Thanks! Wow, there is a ton of info on that post. We'll go through it.

Yeah, I read the other day about sending email in specific format instead of mailing DS-3032. Hopefully it will work for us, as well. As soon as the petition is approved and I get the case number, I'll email that, then do AOS bill and package. Already have almost all the papers for that. Hopefully by that time mom will have sent me her additional original civil documents. NVC customer rep told me they have to all be originals, but no translation is needed since she'll go to the local embassy for the interview.

Aside from DS-230 Part 1, is there any other form I need her to sign?

U r welcome. I meet mail as in postal mail but yes just use that handy email template works like a charm. Approval takes about 14 days.

The DS-230 is the only signed document needed and yes originals or certified copies. You sure they don't need translations? Never heard that. One thing with NVC u can get a different answer from everyone you call. But all documents are to be translated.

Their web site says:

"All documents not written in English, or in the official language of the country in which application for a visa is being made, must be accompanied by certified translations"

http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_3195.html

The documents are in the "official language of the country in which application for a visa is being made", Bosnian.

So she told me since the documents are going to the local embassy, they all speak the local language there, so no translation needed.

There is one thing I am not clear on:

Our local embassy in Sarajevo is listed on the page for embassies that have developed location-specific assistance:

http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_3830.html

Does that mean our country falls under Standard or Appointment Post processing?

If it is still Standard, does that mean the ORIGINAL civil documents need to be brought to the embassy, or should I still keep them and send myself with the DS-230?

You are better off sending translations with the DS-230 packet. Read this: http://travel.state..../info_3195.html

EDIT: Opps, didn't see you already replied & posted the same link. good.gif
